Muslim Ummah the world over were obligated to visit Saudi Arabia to perform one of the five pillars of Islam.

Lesser Hajj is also performed to cleanse wrong doings by individuals males or females.

It was against this backdrop governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has passionately appealed to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to lift its curtailment of the performance of Umrah (lesser Hajj) by Nigerian Muslims to the Kingdom this year before the Ramadan fasting period.

Gov. Tambuwal, who made the appeal through Dr. Hasan bin Abdul-Hamid bin Abdul-Hakim Bukhari, Dean of the Institute of Arabic Language for Non-Native Speakers, of Umm Al-Qura University (UQU), who led a team to conduct the fifth edition of dawrah (refresher course in the reading of the Holy Qur’an), also aimed at training Sharia Court judges (Alkalai), university lecturers and secondary school teachers, also urged the Kingdom to bring in investment to Nigeria that will help empower the people of the country.

“We need more investment from Saudi Arabia because we know that the Kingdom and its nationals invest heavily in even countries where the number of Muslims is not as much as we have here in Nigeria.

“We need more of these interventions. I don’t know why we have been seeing less investments by Saudi Arabia in Nigeria. I am, therefore, appealing to you to use your good contact and influence in the business and government of Saudi Arabia for it to commence investment in Nigeria.

We need it for our development and mutual benefit of the two countries- in agriculture, animal health, mining… We have a lot of things that we can do,” the Governor emphasized.

Turning to the significance of the dawrah, the Governor said education is a continuum. “We must continue to educate our people, especially in the ways of our religion and as prescribed by Allah (SWT) and delivered by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW); and his own practices in Sunnah and sayings. We must contact to learn every day

“We must continue to thank you for having the courage to come all the way fro Saudi Arabia to Sokoto despite the negative news that are going out there about the insecurity situation in the country and in Sokoto in particular.

“We cannot be tired of asking for more. We kindly request, just as did the Commissioner for Basic Education, that you do more of this training for us and also, possibly, give us some slots for admission of some of our students into your university just the way we enjoy such from the University of Madina,” he appealed.

In his remarks, Sheikh Abdul-Hamid, expressed gratitude to Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto, for collaborating with his institution to make the conduct of the dawrah a success

He said Saudi Arabia is not unaware of the historic contributions of the Sokoto Caliphate to the development of islam in Nigeria and Africa.

The 5th edition of the dawrah, bankrolled by UQU, which closed in Sokoto yesterday, was also intended to also strengthen historic ties between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria/Sokoto state; as well as the Ummi-Qura University.

The next edition will be hosted by Ibadan, Oyo state at a later date.

Tambuwal Has What It Takes To Be Nigeria’s President – Ikechukwu

    By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Spokesman of the Tambuwal Presidential Campaign Organization, Dr Okey ikechukwu, has said that Nigeria’s best chance of a president that can unite Nigeria, restore a sense of community and give the nation 21st Century leadership is Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He made these remarks during an interactive session with journalists. Excerpts: –

On what he would consider some of the strong points of his man vis a vis other aspirants within and outside the PDP and what makes him think that Tambuwal would make a good president for Nigeria at a time like this, Ikechukwu replied: “First he has learnt the ropes over the years, at the highest levels of national leadership and also as a professional. Second, he is very well known as a master of consensus and political bridge builder, which makes him the type of person we need now. Third, he has no issues with the law.
Fourth, he is one candidate in this contest who takes pains to be in mentioning specific, practical and implementable policy ideas, actions and proposals with which he intends to tackle our national problems once elected.

Asked to explain Tambuwal’s views on restructuring he said: “His Excellency has taken pains to point out that the way forward for us to first realise that some parts of the country see it as confedration, while others see it as regionalism, resource control and so on and that the entire thing boils down to the demand for equity, for greater autonomy of Nigeria’s federating units and for the full expression of our national character in everything we do. He insists that our diversity must be maintained if we are to have a polity that gives everyone a sense of belonging”.

Dr. Ikechukwu said that Tambuwal looks at restructuring from the angle of realistic devolution of powers, debugging the essentially unitary provisions of the constitution and ensuring that the federating units do not feel diminished in their interface with the central government. “Restructuring does not, and cannot, mean balkanizing and re-dividing the lands and rivers of Nigeria. Tambuwal has explained that we should expunge the pillars of inequity in our existing constitution and debug them for good. This will include moving things like power supply, railways and so many other things from the Exclusive Legislative List to the concurrent lists. It will include allowing the Federating units to choose who should represent them in institutions like Federal Character commission, Boundary Commission, etc. “Tambuwal believes that such institutions should be populated by persons chosen by their respective states and screened by their respective State Houses of Assembly, before they are sent to Abuja.

Tambuwal said, “Nigeria has never been this polarized at any other time in its history.” We need a leader who has the ability, understanding and willingness to unify Nigeria at the level of values and bring back the peace and genuine community life that has been destroyed in our body politic.
When Ikechukwu was asked “So you see” Tambuwal as the man to beat in both the PDP primaries and in the 2019 elections? He replied: “No, he is not the man to beat, but the man they cannot beat. He has the credentials for 21st century leadership and the network of loyalty around him will come into full play in the coming days and months.

2023: PDP Will Regain Its Pride In Zamfara, Nigeria -Tambuwal

Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has reiterated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will regain its pride of place in Nigeria and Zamfara state in the forthcoming political dispensation.

Governor Tambuwal stated this on Monday in Gusau, Zamfara state capital, where he had gone to consult the party’s stakeholders on his options to prosecute or drop his ambition to run for the position of President in the country in 2023.

This as contained in a release by his media aide, Muhammad Bello further said the Gusau visit is the second leg of Tambuwal’s Presidential bid discourse. Last week on Tuesday he visited Jigawa state.

According to him, the roll back of the fortunes of the PDP in leading Nigeria and Zamfara state will soon be over.

He observed that the reasons why he left PDP in 2018 are still subsisting under the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) are still subsisting, “therefore, the leadership of the APC in the country must be challenged in order to make things work right.”

Enumerating the ills fostered on Nigerians and the people of Zamfara the APC government as insecurity, economic downturns, debilitating healthcare system and the “collapse of virtually everything,” the Governor pledged that “if we succeed in our bid the country will witness a reversal of the current bad fortunes

He also expressed sympathies to people of Zamfara state on the spate of insecurity and urged them to collectively convoke a security summit to brainstorm on the problem with a view to providing good leadership.

On the recent moves by the Zamfara state House of Assembly to impeach the Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, Tambuwal said this is sub judicial.

“The matter is in the court and any law abiding person must allow the law to take its due course,” he cautioned protagonists of the move.

In his remarks at the occasion, former Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa said the purpose of their visit is to present Gov. Tambuwal to the state PDP rank and file for consultation with them on the pursuit of his ambition to run for President next year.

“He is not a stranger to you. He’s our brother. Sokoto a d Zamfara states are the same entity. He (Tambuwal) sought the same position in 2019. Then seven of us from the North contested and he emerged second.

“Young and energetic then and now, I believe he still has the capacity to do it very well more than us. He is ready. I have no doubt that he will represent us very well if he gets the chance,” Bafarawa said.

Bafarawa also added that the Governor and his entourage comprising of former Deputy Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari and the former minister of power, Engineer Bello Suleiman, were in the state not for campaign, “but for the progress and development of this state owing to the obvious monumental loss of lives and property being witnessed on daily basis here.”

The former Governor who said he won’t apportion blame to anyone for the insecurity situation in the state, however pointed out that “whoever does right knows it. And, we whoever does wrong knows it,” quoting late Zamfara-born Hausa singer, Alhaji Musa Dankwairo.

“We need fervent prayers for God’s intervention on what is happening in the state. In the same vein, we should pray to God to give the leaders the courage to lead well,” he offered.

Receiving Tambuwal’s delegation the Deputy Governor of Zamfara state, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau expressed appreciation to the team for the visit.

While enumerating the political credentials of Gov Tambuwal, he pledged to support him in his bid if he so decides. “There’s no turning in our determination to back him all the way,” he assured.

Barrister Gusau leading the state party chairman,
Col. Bala Mande (rtd), former military administrator of Nasarawa state, its secretary, Alhaji Umaru Farouk (Shettiman Rijiya) and other stakeholders of the state chapter of the PDP had on arrival of Gov. Tambuwal and his entourage treated them to a rousing welcome by a large crowd.
