Gbajabiamila pays tribute to Tinubu at 70

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has paid glowing tributes to the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his 70th birthday.

He said the Jagaban of Borgu kingdom has demonstrated an uncommon and unyielding commitment to a progressive and prosperous Nigeria.

Referring to Tinubu as the pillar of modern developmental strides in Lagos State, Gbajabiamila said he believes the APC national leader will go down in history as one of the best and most impactful democrats Nigeria has had.

Nigeria’s Economy Unjustly Designed – Tinubu

A national leader of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and presidential aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said that Nigeria remains locked in place, noting that its economy is unjustly designed to export raw materials and import increasingly expensive finished products.

He noted that even though the name of the raw materials might have changed from cocoa and groundnuts to oil and gas; the dire effects of the uneven economic arrangement remained the same.

Tinubu spoke while delivering the 25th convocation lecture titled ‘Global Trends: The Rightful Place of Nigerian in the World’ at the Lagos State University (LASU).

The former Lagos State governor, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, pointed out that oil and gas provided over 90 percent of foreign exchange and 80 percent of governmental revenues.

He emphasized that ever dwindling revenues from natural resource exports are no longer sufficient to fund the rising costs of manufactured imports let alone support the expansive fiscal obligations of modern democratic governance.

He said, “We must be truthful enough to acknowledge this lapse, bold enough to correct it, and tolerant enough not to endlessly vilify each other for causing it. We are all both cause and hopefully solution. We must join hands to reform this nation.

“No society can long endure in an air of mistrust and acrimony. To flourish, there must be a full understanding that every Nigerian, regardless of place or social circumstance, is equally entitled to the fundamental good things all human beings deserve and desire.

“We have boasted of enormous potential for decades, consoling our discomfort by saying that potential will be realised tomorrow. But something disappointing seems to happen when tomorrow becomes today. Years and decades have passed, yet, greatness remains elusive. If greatness comes merely by speaking of it, we would be among the greatest nations in human history. Instead Nigeria remains locked in place.”

He therefore stated that while the nation struggled through the economic mud, the world rapidly changed amid expansion in digital economy and virtual world.

He urged the young graduates to find their place in the world of cryptocurrencies and metastases but that they should not yield to the erroneous mindset that the virtual world is the dominant one.

“That a lucky few may make it rich in this sphere does not make it the critical path to national prosperity. Without the tangible goods of the productive economy, the virtual realm is but an elaborate game. A bitcoin has little use unless it can be exchanged for a valuable good or service,

“Only when numbers generated in the virtual sphere become attached to tangible products or services do those numbers have true meanings. We welcome the innovations of the virtual world but we also better retool the traditional economy.

“Notwithstanding the war-induced surge in oil prices, the future will rely less on oil and gas. We dare not predicate our economic destiny on a resource of diminishing utility,” he warned.

At the convocation, 76 graduands bagged doctoral degrees while honourary doctorate award was conferred on eminent personalities, including the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his Borno State counterpart, Professor Babagana Umaru Zulum, who was represented by his Deputy, Umar Usman Gadaffi.

Also, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Nigeria in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa; Chairman of Ikeja Hotel Plc, Mr. Goodie Ibru and the former Chairman of First Bank Plc, Mrs. Ibukunoluwa Abiodun Awosika, were conferred with honourary doctorates.

The rank of Emeritus Professor was conferred on distinguished Professor Peter Akinsola Okebukola, the Chairman of Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and on the Council and Board of Trustees of 10 universities across the world.

The event was graced by important personalities and monarchs including the Emir of Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero, white cap chiefs and other traditional rulers.

BREAKING: Tinubu Meets APC Senators, Seeks Support For Presidential Ambition

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday met with the APC Senate Caucus at the National Assembly.

Tinubu, at the meeting held in Abuja, said he was at the National Assembly to seek counsel, partnership, and support of the lawmakers for his presidential bid.

He explained that the elections are coming up in February next year and he cannot do it by himself, but wants the National Assembly to back him to successfully actualise his lifetime ambition.

The former Lagos State governor further said he has informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his ambition and publicly announced it.

He asked that the federal lawmakers support and help him get nominated so he can succeed President Buhari as the next Nigerian leader.

Senate President Ahmed Lawan in response said the APC Senate caucus is a major pillar of the party and has shown loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the party.

He told Tinubu that in the course of fighting for the unity of the party the lawmakers are with him.

Last week, Tinubu informed the APC caucus in a letter written to Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, which they read out on the floor at the plenary on March 8, 2022.

The presidential aspirant urged the lawmakers to meet with him to exchange ideas on how to run the country.

We’ve asked God to bring Tinubu down, he doesn’t mean well for us – Aregbesola

Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola has attacked his political ally and leader, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, over who becomes the next governor of the state.

Aregbesola, who is the current Minister of Interior, spoke in Ijebu Ijesa while addressing the All Progressives Congress, APC, faithful and stakeholders ahead of the party’s governorship primary.

Aregbesola, while addressing the crowd, described the incumbent Governor and his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, as the most “useless and corrupt governor in the history of the state.”

The minister said categorically that Oyetola would not be allowed to return for a second term in office the same way former Lagos Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, was treated in 2019.

Although Aregbesola did not directly mention Tinubu’s name, he launched some verbal attacks at the APC National Leader in relation to the political situation in Osun.

He said that Tinubu abused his leadership and suddenly assumed the god complex.

“We followed and served this leader with all our might. In fact, our loyalty to him had caused some people to start wondering if we were no longer Muslims,” he said.

“But we were with him and served him according to the admonition of our forefathers, who said when serving anyone, we should do so with sincerity and loyalty; that if you regard anyone as your principal, you must serve him wholeheartedly.

“Sadly, we didn’t know that while we wished him well, he didn’t think good of us.

“However, because we placed him higher than where he ordinarily should be, he started to think he is our god.

“Unfortunately, for him, we had sworn to God that whoever compares himself to him, we’d beg Him to bring down such a fellow.”

Tinubu in UK for consultations, he is not sick — Aide

Tunde Rahman, media aide to Bola Tinubu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the former Lagos governor is in the United Kingdom for “consultations”.

Reports had it that the APC chieftain travelled to London.

There were, however, unconfirmed reports that the former Lagos governor travelled to the UK over ill health.

But in a statement he sent to TheCable, Rahman said the presidential aspirant is in “excellent spirits” and speculations about his visit to the UK are “inaccurate”.

He said Tinubu travelled to the UK for meetings and consultations, adding that the former governor will return to Nigeria next week.

“Asiwaju Tinubu is in fine health and excellent spirits. The speculations in a national newspaper and on social media are just what they are: unfounded and untrue speculations,” he said.

“Asiwaju’s trip to the UK is not to rest or because of any illness. While abroad, Asiwaju is maintaining a vigorous schedule of meetings and consultations on a range of important matters.

“Whether at home or abroad, the daily schedule of Asiwaju is vibrant and full. Most people couldn’t sustain his high level of activity.

“Asiwaju will return to Nigeria next week once this set of meetings and talks abroad are completed.”

2023: Any Igbo man who supports Tinubu deserves to be banished – Analyst, Obioha

A South Easterner and political Analyst, Greg Obioha, has frowned at the declaration of the National leader of the All Progressive Congress, Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to run for the seat of President.

The political analyst in an interview with DAILY POST on Friday insisted that any Igbo man who supports Tinubu deserves to be banished.

Recall that Tinubu had visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to declare his desire to lead the country in 2023.

The APC national leader, had while speaking to State House correspondents shortly after meeting with Buhari disclosed that becoming the President of Nigeria had been his lifelong ambition.

But, Greg Obioha, warned that it is sacrilegious for any Igbo man to support the APC national leader and also insisted that it amounts to huge insult and slight on the collective sensibilities of people of the Igbo race.

“To promote Ashiwaju for what? Whoever does it no matter his inalienable right to associate or support whoever he wishes is not a true Igbo person.

He queried, “Why should we talk of Tinubu in Igbo land? Obasanjo displaced the foremost leader, Alex Ekwueme and opened the post-military democratic rule of the present era between 1999 and 2007. A Yoruba man became the Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives immediately after Obasanjo, I mean Dimeji Bankole.

“In 2015, power returned to the northern part of the country through Buhari and naturally the Vice President should come from the south. What happened? Same southwest led by this very Tinubu insisted that it must be ceded to them and it happened? Professor Yemi Osibanjo was made the Vice President and by 2023, he would have spent eight years there”.

Continuing, the frontline politician stated, “again, shortly after 2019 general election, while a Yoruba man in the person of Osinbajo was the vice President, same Yorubas of the southwest led by Tinubu insisted that the Speaker of House of Representatives be ceded to their region and that was how Gbajabiamila emerged.

“At the Senate, the Deputy Senate President slot for the south was grabbed by Senator Omo Age from Delta State. When Obasanjo ceded power back to the north on completion of his tenure, he ceded the Vice President slot meant for the south to the south-south state of Bayelsa, through Jonathan who later became the President of Nigeria for six years. That implies that every slot that had been ceded to the south since 1999 return of southwest or southeast”.

Obioha submitted, “It is criminal, atrocious, repugnant for Tinubu to think of taking the presidential slot of 2023 that has been ceded to the southern part of the country. Any Igbo man that supports such criminality deserves to be banished”.
