    Breweries mute as over N200m worth of beers destroyed in Kano

    Nigeriian brewery is yet to make any categorical statement on the destruction of over N200 million of beer bottles in kano state.

    Recalled that, Kano State owned security outfit, Hisbah Board,’ last Sunday destroyed 1,975,000 bottles of different brands of beer estimated at over N200m.

    But the Nigeriian Brewery Northern plant Kaduna, known for its cooperates social responsibility to Kano state, is yet to make a statement on value of it’s product destroyed when contacted by our correspondent through the public affairs department.

    The beers destroyed by Hisbah board, with support of court order, were allegedly confiscated within Kano metropolis within a period of times, according to media reports.

    Speaking during the destruction exercise in Kalebawa in the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area on Sunday, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, said consumption of alcohol and all other intoxicants were forbidden in Islam

    In a statement by the the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hassan Fagge, the governor was quoted as saying, “Even in Kano we have banned the consumption of beer in all parts of the state.”

    Ganduje added that Hisbah Board was established with the aim of preventing evil social acts in society.

    The statement quoted the Commander General, Hisbah Board, Sheikh Haruna Ibn Sina, as saying that the beer confiscated was worth over N200m.

    He further said that the board got a court order to destroy over 20 trucks of the intercepted alcohol.

    Ibn Sina while expressing the appreciation of the support given to them by the government, assured the governor that the board would not relent in the “fight against immoral acts and other social vices destroying society.

    Coronavirus: Nigerian Breweries postpones 2019 AGM

    Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc has announced the postponement of its 74th Annual General Meeting (AGM) slated for April 22.

    Mr Uaboi Agbebaku, NB Company Secretary, stated this in a notice to the investing public and the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

    Agbebaku said the company’s Board of Directors took the decision to postpone the AGM due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

    He said that the board took the decision to ensure full compliance with all health and safety directives issued by the Federal and State Governments in a bid to control and curb the spread of the virus.

    According to him, a new date for the AGM will be decided on in due course and communicated accordingly.

    Some quoted companies listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange have already notified the market about the postponement of their AGMS due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

    Prominent among the firms that have postponed their AGMs are UBA, Transcorp, Transcorp Hotels, United Capital, Africa Prudential and Notore. (NAN)
