  • Napoli Turns Down Al-Hilal’s €130 Million Offer for Victor Osimhen

Napoli Turns Down Al-Hilal’s €130 Million Offer for Victor Osimhen

    By Daniel Edu

Saudi Pro League club, Al-Hilal, made an ambitious bid of €130 million to acquire Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Italian Serie A champions, Napoli. However, Napoli swiftly rejected the offer, indicating their intention to keep the 24-year-old forward and value him at no less than €200 million.

Reports suggest that Al-Hilal, backed by the multi-billion-dollar royal wealth fund PIF, sought to convince Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to sell Osimhen to them after failing to secure the services of Paris Saint Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.

Osimhen’s outstanding performances played a pivotal role in Napoli’s triumphant Scudetto-winning campaign last season. With 26 goals and five assists in 32 games, the Nigerian striker helped the Italian side secure the Serie A title for the first time in over three decades during the 2022-2023 season.

His exceptional form earned him the prestigious Golden Boot title and the best striker of the Season award, making him the first African player in Serie A history to achieve such an honor.

Despite Al-Hilal’s substantial offer, Napoli remains firm in their desire to retain Osimhen and is instead focusing on negotiating a new, long-term contract with him to secure his future at the club. Napoli values the player at over €200 million, reflecting his importance to the team and his potential in the transfer market.

The Saudi Pro League has witnessed a significant influx of European players this summer, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo making a move to Al Nassr in December 2022, which may have motivated other elite players to join the league as well.

I’ll Never Give Up Playing For My Portugal National Team – Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo said on Monday he would “never give up” playing for Portugal as he prepares to make his 200th international appearance against Iceland in Euro 2024 qualifying.

The 38-year-old set a new men’s international record when he won his 197th cap against Liechtenstein in March.

“I will never give up coming here (to the Portugal national team), because it’s always a dream,” he told a press conference in Reykjavik ahead of Tuesday’s match.

“Reaching 200 international matches isn’t for just anyone, it shows the love I have for my country and my team.”

Ronaldo has scored four goals in three games since Roberto Martinez took over as Portugal coach earlier this year, but failed to find the net in last week’s 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“It would be spectacular to crown my 200th international game with a goal,” added Ronaldo, the all-time men’s record international scorer with 122 goals.

“I’m not chasing records, they’re chasing me. I’m happy because it’s part of my motivation to continue at the highest level with the team.

    “It’s something I never thought I’d accomplish.”

Martinez confirmed that the striker, who now plays for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, would start the game.

“A player reaching 200 matches, that’s unique,” said the former Belgium boss.

“It’s a source of pride for Portuguese football.”

Portugal are already cruising towards a place at next year’s Euro in Germany, sitting top of Group J after scoring 13 goals without reply in three straight wins.
