    Zamfara Govt dethrones two Emirs, District Head over Alleged Involvement in Banditry

    The Zamfara State government has dethroned two emirs and a district head over allegations of aiding the activities of bandits terrorising communities in the state.

    Those affected by the government’s decision include the Emir of Zurmi, Abubakar Atiku, Emir of Dansadau, Hussaini Umar, as well as Sulaiman Ibrahim who used to be the District Head of Birnin Tsaba.

    Mr Ibrahim Dosara, who is the Commissioner for Information in Zamfara, made the announcement on Wednesday while briefing reporters at the end of the State Executive Council meeting in Gusau, the state capital.

    “The council has approved the deposition of Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and that of Dansadau, Alhaji Hussaini Umar,” he declared.

    “The council also approved the immediate removal of the District Head of Birnin-Tsaba, Alhaji Sulaiman Ibrahim.”

    According to the commissioner, the government has also ordered that all land titles issued by the affected traditional leaders be revoked.

    “The State Executive Council has also directed the state Ministry of Justice to issue an executive order to back up the council resolution,” he added.

    The deposition of the traditional leaders comes 10 months after they were suspended by the state government.

    It also comes days after the submission of the reports of the committees set up by the state government to investigate the allegations against the affected traditional rulers.

    “The council upheld the recommendation of a six-man white paper committee set up by the government to review the report of two separate committees earlier set up to investigate the involvement of the three traditional rulers in the activities of banditry in the state,” said a statement by Governor Bello Matawalle’s media aide, Zailani Bappa.

    “The three impeached royal fathers were earlier suspended by the state government following wide allegations of serious involvement in the act of banditry in the state.

    “The findings of the committees also revealed abuse of the Land Act in their domain and the government ordered the reversal to status quo involving the lands illegally allocated.”

    District Head, Two Sons Killed As Bandits Attack Zamfara Community

    Bandits have killed three persons during an attack on Gada community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

    During the invasion of the community very early on Wednesday, the armed men killed the District Head of Gada, Umaru Bawan-Allah, and his two sons.

    The Commissioner for Information in Zamfara, Ibrahim Dosara, confirmed the attack hours after the incident.

    He stated that apart from the killings, the bandits also razed down the house of the district head of the community

    “The security agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force are currently on the trail of the bandits,” Dosara stated.

    An indigene of the community, who witnessed the attack revealed that the assailants invaded the area in the early hours and unleashed mayhem on the residents.

    According to him, the armed men abducted many others from the community, in addition to killing the district head of Gada and his two sons.

    Gada community is about seven kilometres from Bungudu town, the headquarters of the local government.

    The incident occurred about three months after the Emir of Bungudu, Hassan Attahiru, was abducted by bandits along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

    Attahiru who was kidnapped in September spent 32 days in the custody of his abductors before he was released.

    Channels Television had also reported the attack by bandits on some communities in Gusau LGA during which three persons were killed on Sunday.

    An unspecified number of villagers, mostly women, were said to have been kidnapped during the assault on Geba, Tsakuwa, Gidan Kada, and Gidan Kaura, among other villages.

    The bandits, who were said to have invaded the communities on motorcycles, moved from village to village, looting shops and houses for food items.

    They reportedly operated for several hours within the villages without the intervention of security operatives who were not around during the attacks.

    as expatriates abandon Zungeru Hydro Dam

    The District Head of the ancient city of Zungeru in Wushishi Local Government area, of Niger State, Mallam Mustapha Madaki, (Madakin Zungeru), and his two wives have allegedly been abducted by armed bandits.

    It was learnt the community leader and his two wives were taken to an unknown location.

    Reports gathered that gunmen numbering about 20, arrived Zungeru at about 1:40am on Sunday and headed to the house of the Madakin Zungeru which is located in the heart of the town.

    They were said to have captured him from the room of one of the wives, Habiba and carried him away alongside his two wives.

    A source from the area told our Reporter that the bandits arrived in the area and went straight to the Madaki’s house and carried only him and his wives.

    The source explained, “the attack from what we saw was carried out through an informant as it was only the district head and his wives that were abducted from the town in an operation that lasted only 30 minutes without any resistance from anywhere”

    “The gunmen parked their motorcycles about 500 meters away and walked on foot into Zungeru to attack the town.”

    It was also gathered that the bandits have not contacted the relations of the victims.

    Reports had it that before the attack on Sunday, all expatriates working on the 700 Megawatt Zungeru hydro dam, Messrs CNEEC-Sino hydro abandoned the site.

    They were allegedly escorted out of the state under heavy security on Saturday morning.

    Zungeru town is about 30 kilometres from Tegina, where the 136 pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamic school were abducted last Sunday.

    Efforts to get a reaction from the State Police Command failed as the Public Relations Officer, PRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached as of press time.

    The member representing Zango/Jaba Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji, has condemned in strong terms the killings of the District Head of Gidan Zaki and his son in Atyap Chiefdom, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

    Hon. Magaji made the assertion in a released he titled: “PRESS STATEMENT ON THE KILLINGS OF THE DISTRICT HEAD OF GIDAN ZAKI AND HIS SON ON THE EARLY HOURS OF TUESDAY MORNING BY SUSPECTED FULANI HERDSMEN FROM THE MEMBER REPRESENTING ZANGO/JABA FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, HON AMOS GWAMNA MAGAJI”.
    In the statement made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, Hon. Magaji noted that the sad event, which occured on the early hours of Tuesday, was totally evil and a violation of the sanctity of human lives. He lamented that the development came at a time peace efforts by the State Government and relevant Stakeholders were underway in the area following attacks on Communities which left scores of people dead and properties destroyed.
    The Federal lawmaker described the barbaric act as a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to disrupt the relative  peace process that the ethnic tribes are enjoying.
    Magaji condoled the Atyap traditional Council and the Family of Mr. Kuye, prayed to God for the repose of his soul.
    Hon  Magaji stated that he spoke with a government representative who said the Kaduna State Governor, Mal. Nasir El-Rufa’i,  has vowed that the State Government will not relent in its efforts to apprehend the perpartrators of the dastardly act and bring them to book.
    He appealed to his Constituents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies and provide useful information that would lead to the apprehension of those who carried out the evil act.

    Six new district heads have been turbaned by Lamido Adamawa Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustafa with a call on them to exhibit the spirit of sportsmanship in the discharge of their duties.

    The turbaning took place at the Lamido’s palace Yola, in the presence of the Deputy Governor Chief Crowther Seth who was there on behalf of the State government.

    The new district heads include; Hassan Jafaru the district head of Daware, Abubakar Jika, district head of Nyibango, Umar Yahya Njdda, district head of Uba, Ibrahim Usman Sarki Fada, district head of Guyaku, Yunusa Danjuma Ardumi, district head of Binyeri and Jamilu Dahiru Musa, district head of Lala.

    The Lamido Adamawa Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustafa charged them to shun any form of differences, rather promote equality, peace and unity.

    He also reminded them that everybody must give account of his or her deeds, hence the need for them to fear God and ensure justice and fairness prevails in their localities.

    The Paramount ruler further tasked them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

    On behalf of the celebrants, the district head of Nyibango Abubakar Jika thanked the emirate council and the people of their communities for finding them worthy for the job, and promised to exhibit a sense of maturity in their leadership.

    Other traditional rulers and title holders, politicians among other top government functionaries from far and near graced the occasion.

    Earlier, the Deputy Governor received his colleague the Deputy Governor of Borno state who was in the state for a wedding ceremony.

    Police confirm abduction of District Head, Son in Zamfara

    The Zamfara Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the District Head of Gayari of Gummi Local Government Area, Alhaji Hassan Mohammed and his Son.
    The Spokesmanof the command SP Muhammad Shehu, confirmed the abduction to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Gusau.
    Shehu said the abductors, who attacked Gayari town in the early hours of Friday, went directly to the house of district head and took him away together with his son.
    According to him, the command in collaboration with other security agencies had reinforced security in the area and were on the trail of the kidnappers.
    “We are calling on the general public in the state to always be vigilant and report any suspicious movements in their respective areas”, Shehu said. (NAN)
