Edo Election is a fight for the destiny of Niger Delta – Wike

The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has described the governorship election in Edo State on Saturday as a fight for the destiny of the Niger Delta region.

The governor spoke on Thursday during a meeting organised for leaders and elected representatives of the Peoples Democratic Party in Benin, the Edo State capital.

Wike urged them to discard fear and threats of violence as they resolve to participate in all the electoral processes.

He charged them to monitor the distribution of electoral materials and be vigilant to protect their votes.

“The electoral battle may not be easy. But God is with us. With the people also on the ground, we will win.

“Let me tell you, God forbid that APC wins; if they do, all of you here would have failed because your political life will be in jeopardy.

“They will come with federal might, but do not fear because we have the electorate on our side. They did the same in Rivers State; the people resisted them by protecting their votes,” he stated.

Wike also expressed the need to mobilise the people of Edo for the gubernatorial election with the aim of liberating the state from godfatherism.

“This is an opportunity for you to fight for the liberation of Edo State. You must all say enough is enough. One man should not be allowed to continue to insult Edo people. The godfather thinks what he says will always be. This is the time to stop him.

“We want all the states in the South-South to be united. So, it is the best time to join your kith and kin from other Niger Delta states. This election is a fight for the destiny of the region. Edo State cannot continue to be alone,” a statement by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim, quoted Wike as saying,

The governor also said the party representatives had done extensive campaigns from ward to ward and should work together to deliver the PDP during the election.

Wike, who is also the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for Edo State, advised the electorate not to be violent in their determination to liberate the state from godfatherism.

He said party faithful also needed to know how to be part of history in securing the future of the state.

Also, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, said the meeting was at the instance of Wike, the Chairman of the PDP National Campaign Council for Edo State.

Obaseki noted that the meeting would address grey areas and other important issues required to secure electoral victory for the party.

Edo State Chairman of the PDP, Anthony Aziegbeme, said they had started to be vigilant and would resist any form of hijack of electoral materials.

  • Edo Governorship Debate: Where the lions & the tigers got it wrong

Edo election: Caution as storm gathers and tempers rise - Businessday NG

The state of Edo is again without doubt in the global spotlight as many of our people go to the polls to elect their governor, a man that would oversee the affairs of the state in the next four years.

Last night however afforded us the opportunity via live debate to watch the two main governorship contenders on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress. The matters brought up for discussion are real issues on the front burner of the Obaseki-Shaibu administration and these are in deed inherited problems from his predecessor which border on insecurity, unemployment, education, health, agriculture and food security to mention but a few.

We shall in the course of this short piece examine these issues in turn raised in the debate to see if the incumbent administration has fared well or not.

For starters, in the area of insecurity before Obaseki mounted the saddle, our people suffered from too many problems and these range from our individual complexity to frustration factor. Edo State, if we need reminding, was caught in an appalling web of insecurity which spoke volumes for crimes of varying degrees particularly violent ones such as armed robbery, kidnapping, hooliganism and the like as the lions and the tigers held sway under the active connivance and protection of certain state actors.

However, as luck would have it to say the former have not be tamed by the security measures put in place by the no-nonsense indefatigable duo – Obaseki and Shuiabu – would be an understatement. It is not in dispute that security of lives and property has been restored as our people now sleep with two eyes closed which is a far cry from what obtained in the not too distant past.

Obaseki in the course of the historic debate did expressly and aptly remind Edo people and other viewers around the world of these measures which is an open secret. Hence in the area of insecurity which was on the ascending order of magnitude I think the Obaseki administration deserves a pat on the back which his major opponent, I dare say, would have appreciated and commended by brushing their political differences aside.

One issue that also featured prominently in that debate was human trafficking which his opponent alleged has spiked double digits. This again is not true, in fact it is none other than terminological inexactitudes. Far from what he alleged it has actually reduced to which we are all living witnesses.

    In my interview with
Vanguard newspapers in the second quarter of last year I made a scanty reference to the daily episodes of Mediterranean deaths which informed my interest and desire to join the Edo State governorship race. Many Nigerians of Edo State extraction were daily trafficked and shipped through and over the Mediterranean to Europe but this, I dare say, has drastically reduced thanks to the untiring efforts via a series of diplomatic engagements particularly with the authorities of the countries on the north of the Mediterranean by the incumbent administration which could be likened to the Shawshank Redemption – a bestseller movie with proper planning, design and management that has produced amazing results!

Frankly, I see a mass Hegira home of our people in foreign lands on the horizon resulting from the redemption agenda being vigorously pursued and implemented by the Obaseki administration which is in sync with my visions and ideals to regenerate Edo State as a gubernatorial hopeful.

Reckless pursuit of personal aggrandizement via maddening desperation to get Edo State plum job being exhibited by Obaseki’s major opponent is foreign to my nature and therefore nauseating.

The welfare of our people transcends every other personal ambition and it is only proper to throw in the towel and voice one’s solidarity, support and advise where and when necessary as the person at the helm leads convincingly in the right direction in stead of reducing oneself to an unrepentant irritant to the government of the day – a piece of advice for the leader of the lions and the tigers!

Obaseki’s agricultural concept and initiative – a deviation from Nigeria’s medieval agricultural template marks him out as a competent technocrat and administrator. This without doubt has repositioned Edo State in the path of self-sufficiency in food production. I had a swell time during my recent 3-weeks stay in Edo State before moving my teeming supporters at a low-keyed ceremony somewhere in Egor and Oredo Local Government Areas in Benin City, the Edo State capital, to support the Obaseki-Shaibu ticket after collapsing my structures.

Noteworthy during my stay in Benin City are the fresh foods I enjoyed with relish at a comparative low cost unlike Lagos State my so-called spiritual home where the cost of foodstuffs is increasingly becoming prohibitive. That is more than enough for one to contemplate a relocation home as the various economic policies formulated and being painstakingly implemented by the incumbent government is rapidly transforming our state to the proverbial lost city of El-Doraldo!

Health, Education and sports also featured in the historic debate. The Obaseki’s administration performance in these sectors can not be dismissed with a trivial hand. It is not in dispute that his major opponent refused to acknowledge the feats recorded by Obsseki in these key sectors which ought not to be after all. Caesar was ne’er so much your enemy – put differently my dear pastor fondly called POI, Obaseki was ne’er so much your enemy if I may borrow a re-phrased hackneyed quotation from Shakespeare. I say yet again, the welfare of our people comes first; it is therefore advisable under the existing circumstances to let well alone as Obaseki like a Trojan works tirelessly expanding our coast via creation of every enabling environment for businesses and institutions to flourish and we see his efforts yielding fruitful dividends.

Last year, the reforms and innovations carried out by Governor Obaseki in the education sector gave him an award by the Nigerian Union of Teachers as the most education-friendly governor in Nigeria and this he achieved by dint of hardwork via quality learning through technology, teachers and students motivation. Did his opponent have to contest this incontrovertible fact that gave the governor a deserving award yet he did. What a crying blunder!
In sports the Obaseki-Shaibu administratoion made a giant stride. Today Edo has regained its lost glory as
traditional number one destination in sports. During my visit to the Government House in Benin City on invitation by the Deputy Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Philip Shiabu in February this year he did expressly tell me the measures put in put in place by the incumbent administration that revived sports in the state and true to his claims Edo State again is now a force to reckon with in the area of sports – the hosting right granted the state after the on-the-spot assessment of the facilities on the ground is a testimony to this fact!

Has there been dearth of nurses, doctors and other health workers in Edo State under Governor Obaseki’s administration? Frankly, I haven’t heard of it. Our health facilities in Edo State competes with the best anywhere under the sun with well-trained health personnel being churned out yearly from the prestigious University of Benin. This should not have been in contention by his main opponent because we have the facts and figures on the ground how the governor has performed exceedingly well in this regard.
Frankly, what the leader of the lions and the tigers should have done is to applaud the giant strides made by his major opponent and promise to build on that if voted to power in stead of his incessant diatribes and unwarranted attacks on the incumbent governor of our state who repeatedly and consistently whispered endearments, “my brother”, “my brother”, to his opponent. My maternal uncle, may God rest his soul, before going the way of all flesh once reminded me of the grave dangers inherent in trying to achieve anything by violence and I have learnt to live by that caution to this day.

His hostile disposition, repeated debilitating flaws at the debate and many others were where the lions and tigers got it wrong.

Iyoha John Darlington is an Edo State governorship candidate on the platform of the relisted Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN).

    IGP warns Edo, Ondo politicians

    ·       … Says police committed to protecting the sanctity of the ballot

    By Mike 0boh

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed .Abubakar. Adamu, has warned politicians and their supporters in Edo and Ondo States, where gubernatorial elections are scheduled to hold on 19th September, 2020 and 10th October, 2020 respectively, to conduct themselves properly, play by the rules and steer-clear of tendencies capable of undermining the electoral process in the two States.

The IGP gave the warning having reviewed the Election Security Threat Assessment Reports submitted by the Commissioners of Police from both States in a meeting held Tuesday, 25th August, 2020.

The Election Security Threat Analysis reveals amongst other indicators: arming and movement of political thugs, use of inciting statements during political campaigns, high likelihood of violence and possible cross attack by political opponents, misinformation/disinformation aimed at heating-up of the polity and deliberate efforts at delegitimizing government institutions involved in the electoral processes.

The IGP has therefore ordered the Commissioners of Police in the two States – Edo and Ondo – to rejig their preparations for the elections to accommodate and address the threats and emerging trends as contained in the security report.

He noted that the Force leadership is evolving customized security architecture to protect the people and ensure hitch-free elections. The IGP however warns politicians and their supporters in Edo and Ondo that the Force will not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law on anyone or group, irrespective of status that may want to sabotage the security arrangement being emplaced for the elections.

Meanwhile, the IGP also re assured Nigerians, particularly the people of Edo and Ondo States that the Force remains committed to protecting the sanctity of the ballot in the country.

He reiterates that the Police will be neutral, apolitical and will work assiduously with all stakeholders in ensuring a level playing ground for all in the elections.

  • EDO STATE Oshiomole vs. Obaseki: Both sides of the Story vs. One Side of the Truth

EDO STATE Oshiomole vs. Obaseki: Both sides of the Story vs. One Side of the Truth

    By Frisky Larr

Since his unceremonious removal from the Chairmanship of the ruling party and acceptance of his fate in good faith, the former Governor of Edo State has returned to his home-town Iyamho amid the fanfare and jubilation of a teeming number of his supporters. The impressive images of that reception can hardly be ignored. In his usual style and pattern, the former Governor wasted no time throwing down the gauntlet by launching an immediate verbal attack on the incumbent Governor of his state.

He has returned on a mission. A mission that can be fulfilled only with his presence in the state and not in Abuja.

    Oshiomole’s side of the story

In a clear departure from the eerie silence that characterized his public reaction to the open secret of his rift with the incumbent Governor while still Chairman of the ruling party, the former Governor took to chatting up the Social Media in a series of exclusive interviews. By this means, he availed himself of the crucial opportunity of making his side of the story known to the public.

Baring his heart in these still and motion picture interviews, Oshiomole made clear to the beholder that he is, after all, a human being like everyone else, who had his genuine grievances. He painted the picture of a Governor, who he is known to have groomed for the job as a project that was dear to his heart, who ended up betraying all his expectations. In his own words “When you have someone, who has worked with you … someone, who understands what informed policy decisions … the challenge of continuity is easier.”

He described the current Governor as a person, who was very close to the policy decisions that he made when he occupied the seat. He only fell short of describing his successor in outright terms, as the brain behind those policies. He was, however, convinced that Godwin Obaseki was the right man to ensure continuity (no matter how it is defined) when he (Oshiomole) is no longer the Governor. He cited project after project that the Edos were not only grateful for but were also seen to have functioned to the benefit of the public. Most notable was the drainage project that was aimed at stopping the State from immersing in flood when the violent monsoon rainy season begins. Governor Oshiomole explained details of the architectural masterpiece that engineered the project in an elated state of personal satisfaction. For some reasons, however, this project ended up abandoned by his successor and the pictures that meet the eyes from Benin City today is one of the return of flooding at crucial and strategic junctions.

Now without visiting the countless projects he mentioned one after the other, one must not be a psychologist to understand the genuineness and depth of his anger. So deep was his trust in his successor that he considered the fulfillment of his dream for Edo State as a done deal. Witnessing a radical departure from projects that they both designed together and seeing them deteriorating and withering away in careless abandon, can constitute the thrust of a projectile in the heart. Oshiomole’s pains in this sense, are clearly comprehensible and justified too. He was at pains to emphasize that he demanded and expected nothing else but good governance from his successor and never aspired to be a godfather in any sense.

    Obaseki’s side of the story

As a neutral observer, I had tried to reach out to the Governor by contacting one of his aides, with whom I sought to exchange ideas on how much sense the former Governor was making with his passionate submission on the roots of his frustrations. Unfortunately, though, my effort was rebuffed and ignored in palpable arrogance. Indeed, I had loved to explore the prospect of a hard-hitting interview with the Governor to get his own side of the story in black and white.

In the absence of a clear statement from the Governor, however, we will have to work with conjectures and speculations on the basis of the facts surrounding us.

While the singular example of the image of flooding on the streets truly angers the soul and clearly justifies the frustrations of the former Governor, it does not in any way indicate that the incumbent Governor had departed from the project of good governance.

In fact, it can be argued that the ongoing massive project of drainage that seems to have been started from one strategic area of the State capital and was publicly showcased sometime in the first half of 2020, may indicate that the Governor was approaching the project from a different perspective. Indeed, the images of the massive excavation and engineering structure that dominated the presentation spoke for work in progress. From all indications too, there seems to be evidence pointing to a change of direction in the Governor’s priorities.

As has been frequently touted from the Governor’s quarters, the timely payment of wages and pensions may have been prioritized as a marked departure from the days of his predecessor. The rejuvenation and revamping of ruinous government structures and edifices that had constituted a public eyesore for several decades may have been taken to the front-burner. New structures seem to have been added with the example of an industrial center for artisans and the manufacturing industry that is completely new to the state The Governor’s propaganda machine has also showcased a good number of road constructions and even the ongoing construction of a modular refinery, which the former Governor clearly highlighted as a fraudulent project that never moved from paper works.

The truth has just one side

What Governor Oshiomole may have suffered in the hands of his successor in terms of continuity, is not new to the Nigerian political space. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo suffered a worse fate in the hands of his successor, late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. The latter reversed very useful infrastructural and structural policies of his predecessor and even hyped false narratives to make his predecessor look bad. In the case of Governor Oshiomole, his successor apparently shifted priorities only and injected new ideas into the project of transformation.

Indeed, if Governor Oshiomole was not the fighting type, who characteristically created bitter enmity out of political adversity, President Obasanjo would have been a go-to instance for helpful counseling on how not to fight perceived betrayal. This is even made worse by documented claims, very early in the game, by Governor Oshiomole himself that there was nothing in him for his successor to betray since the pledge of governance was made only to the constitution and the people and not the predecessor.

This then beggars the urgent question if Governor Oshiomole has not been truthful by half and not opened up completely in his tell-tale Social Media interactions. While I will return to this in the next few lines, let me make haste to add that there are also indications of truthfulness by half on the part of the incumbent Governor Obaseki.

If the payment of wages and pension has been prioritized by Governor Obaseki as one reason for downgrading the priority of his predecessor’s projects, how then can the protest of the academic and non-academic staffs of the College of Education Ekiadolor including pensioners, in July, over unpaid emoluments, be explained? Questions of this nature will linger in the horizon for as long as the Governor fails to confront the passionate accusations of his adversaries head-on and his aides embrace the arrogant attitude of rebuffing approaches.

Having said that, it is still a mystery why Governor Oshiomole’s justifiable anger simply seems to have transformed into bitterness and desperation since there may have been several leaders before him, who have had the same experiences if not worse, but adopted a more psychologically low-keyed approach in reaction.

How else can the orchestrated disqualification of the incumbent Governor on fully untenable charges of certificate forgery and irregularities be explained if not desperation and unwarranted bitterness? The Governor was screened for a first-term precisely on the basis of those same certificates that have stood the test of litigation. The fact that the hatchet job was done by an academician, whose disgraceful act tends to underscore the dearth of nobility and standard in the academic world, was even worse.

How can the feeling of betrayal in the aftermath of non-pursuance of jointly designed projects in the expected order of priority explain this deeply-rooted and destructive acrimony that may well end up in self-destruction? Is it a case of “My Way or the Highway?” Can a successor not be left to determine his own course of governance with the natural right of criticism by the predecessor if the course is found deficient? Must that lead to a political war of attrition and test of power?

The implied message of “I installed him and I will remove him” is, indeed, the stuff that godfathers are made of in every sense of political corruption. Powerbrokers. Nothing else. Could there be more to it than meets the eyes?

Most importantly, the choice of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the great white hope and redeemer to salvage this project continuity so passionately craved by Governor Oshiomole is a serious diabolical paradox. Watching the series of viral videos, in which the Governor swore “before God and Man” and pledged to waive his immunity from prosecution to launch a scathing desecration of the person of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is not a Sunday morning picnic cheer. The damning character assassinating tirades and vitriols would have gone for a casual adversarial campaign in electioneering were it not for the verifiability of the facts advanced. Many of these facts have been openly confirmed by various speakers and contributors in the wake of the unwarranted political war in such a way that the failure of Pastor Ize-Iyamu to file for libel and character assassination all these years, fully pales into insignificance. An interview granted by the pastor himself to resolve the issue even provided pointers to the veracity of the claims.

In other words, turning around today to present the same character-assassinated candidate as the ultimate redeemer that Oshiomole’s poor sense of judgment unjustifiably vilified speaks more to a fraudulent design and a daylight insult on public intelligence that never stands in any democracy and sane climes. The truth: Pastor Ize-Iyamu obviously has a formidable network of thuggery for ballot-snatching, voters’ intimidation, and destabilization of voting scenes as was exemplified by the recent assault on the palace of the Edo monarch. This seems to assure Governor Oshiomole of a sure path to a pyrrhic victory in his very desperate commitment to oust his successor. Again, this is an unquestionable quality of an aspiring godfather.

No gain mentioning the issue of 14 loyalist lawmakers, who chose to make Abuja their home for whatever reason. They may be justified claiming to have fled for safety in a hostile environment, in which they were supposed to have served the people. They may be wrong in the claim of the opposite side that they absconded upon failure to implement a remote-controlled Oshiomole agenda. In any case, the attempt on August 06, 2020, to relaunch them in a cloak and dagger operation while their case is pending in court, strongly dents all their claims to credibility in the face of political correctness.

The urgent question presses forward again: Has Governor Oshiomole told the whole truth of his motives and intentions? He may plot and strategize to achieve his goals, but if he fails and the chances of failure are high, may Lord have mercy on his political future.

  • Mixed Reactions In Edo State, as Party Members, Appointees join Tsunami of Resignation

Mixed Reactions In Edo State, as Party Members, Appointees join Tsunami of Resignation

Ahead of the September, 19, 2020 elections in Edo State, there has been a backlash of resignations from ‘trusted allies’ of the incumbent Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

Insinuations being given is that these resignations are pre-planned and are meant to teach the PDP candidate in the forthcoming general elections a lesson.

The resignation of Mr. Patrick Iyoha as Director of Obaseki/Shaibu Movement has further sent some shivers down the spines of Obaseki’s supporters. The tsunami list of many appointees of Governor Godwin Obaseki who have parted ways with the governor ahead of the September 19 gubernatorial election in the state is swelling up each day. It was learnt that Iyoha, who was also a member of the state Waste Management Board, communicated his resignation via a letter addressed to the governor on Tuesday.

About 42 political allies of Obaseki have resigned their positions in his cabinet. Three members in the board of Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Area Development Commission on Monday resigned their appointments, citing political and personal reasons.
The members are: Osamwonyi Atu, Emmanuel Odigie, and Rilwanu Oshiomhole, representing Edo-South, Edo-Central, and Edo-North respectively in the board of the commission. In their separate resignation letters dated July 27, they gave different reasons for their resignations.

Osamwonyi Atu resigned his appointment as a member representing Orhionmwon in the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC) board. While he claimed to have resigned to focus on “family issues” that needed his immediate attention, it was reported that the decision was politically motivated. Also, Emmanuel Odigie, was the representative of Edo Central in the State’s Oil and Gas Development Commission. As the Chairman of Edo State Chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Odigie had, in June, led Edo farmers to endorse Obaseki’s re-election.

Rilwanu Oshiomhole, represented Edo North senatorial districts at the Oil and Gas Development Commission. Shortly after his resignation and defection to the APC, he met the candidate of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu where he lashed Obaseki. He criticised Obaseki’s castigation of individuals instead of focusing on governance and policies, saying his administration had abandoned the people.

Similarly, two members, including Mr Gabriel Oiboh, Chairman, State Post Primary Education Board, also tendered their letters of resignation to the governor.
A notable appointee, Taiwo Akerele, who was the Chief of Staff to Governor Obaseki, resigned from the position in April, saying his decision to exit the administration “is based on administrative and governance grounds.”

Paul Ohonbamu, was the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation. He resigned from the cabinet of Obaseki barely a month after Akerele. Ohonbamu was a member of Edo State House of Assembly and one of those who stood by Oshiomhole during the time he had issues with PDP members in the state house of assembly.
Reacting to their resignation, the Special Adviser to Edo State Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said, “This is to clarify that the resigned Board members of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission are not members of the Edo State Cabinet.

“This clarification has become necessary, to correct the erroneous impression in the public domain that members of EDSOGPADEC (an agency of government) board are civil commissioners of the Edo State Government.
“Though these board members are sometimes referred to as commissioners, a title they share with their counterparts on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, they are however not civil commissioners of the Edo State Government that assist with the day-to-day running of the government.”

Edo poll: APC, PDP bicker over rally

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have disagreed over governorship campaigns and rallies in Edo State.

Oshiomhole had fired salvos at Governor Godwin Obaseki in Benin, the state capital, for desperation and lack of principle.

He said the governor, unlike him who stayed on in the party despite losing the position of chairman, the governor defected to the PDzp after losing the APC ticket.

Oshiomhole said Obaseki should pack and go, adding that his second term ambition will crumble in the PDP.

But, Chief Charles Idahosa, former Commissioner for Information and PDP chieftain said Ishiomjole was insensitive, judging by his decision to hold the rally at a time the state was mourning the death of a former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba.

He said what was important at the time of the rally was the fate og the wife and relatives of the former speaker, who were also kidnapped while on their away to the funeral, and not a rally.

Idahosa said: “Oshiomhole sneaked into Edo state. I never believed that after the humiliation Oshiomhole has gone through, he will still come back to Benin to arrange motorcycles, taxi drivers for a rally while his people in his constituency were mourning the sudden death of the former Speaker.

“He went to Abuja to represent us as national chairman for four years, but he could only do two years and two days before he was booted out of office. I feel so embarrassed with what he is doing”.

Idahosa said contrary to Oshionhole’s projections, Obaseki will spring surprise at the poll.

He added:“Everywhere is calm. We are just waiting for September 19 so that the people of Edo can go and vote for Governor Godwin Obaseki. It is a fait accompli”.

Wike withdraws from reconciliation efforts as Edo PDP crisis escalates

The Governor of River state, Bar. Nyesom Wike has withdrawn his efforts at reconciling warring factions in Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he cannot “work with sycophants in Edo PDP peace panel.”

Wike’s withdrawal is a clear sign that the PDP is far from resolving the crisis triggered by the defection of Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki to the party to contest the September governorship election following his disqualification by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike accused some members of the National Working Committee of the PDP of being sycophants and tax collectors who would never tell the truth.

The River state governor stated his reasons for backing out of the peace committee through a statement signed by his Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim on Tuesday.

He said the National Working Committee, instead of carrying everybody along in Edo State, resorted to using the media to blackmail him.

“I told them that in Edo State, we must handle the issue carefully and carry everybody along. They must respect human beings and not behave like tax collectors.

“They said because an order was obtained from a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, then I am responsible.

“I have had sleepless nights to resolve the issue in Edo State. The governors of Edo, Adamawa, and Delta states know what I have done to resolve the issues in Edo State. As a result of this senseless accusation, I have pulled out of Edo State settlement. My integrity matters.

“Nobody will rubbish me by raising false accusations against me. I will fight back,” Wike said, adding that he was no longer going to participate in any reconciliation.

“I am brought up not to accept injustice, and that is why I keep speaking out on national issues. Nobody in the PDP can intimidate Rivers State,” he said.
