#EndSARS protesters demands are impossible to meet – Miyetti Allah

The Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore has appealed to the EndSARS protesters to suspend the protest and wait for the Federal Government to implement their demands.

The National President of the association, Malam Bello Abdullahi, made the appeal at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.

He said that it was unacceptable for the protesters to resort to blocking of roads, thereby denying other citizens the right to use the roads.

According to him, this is an attempt to ground the country and create more suffering in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.

“For weeks now citizens, especially our youths have taken to the streets to demand an end to SARS/Police brutality and also requesting for a reform of the Nigerian Police Force.

” Thankfully, these demands have been received by the Federal Government, which has ordered arrest and persecution of those police officers involved in extra-judicial killings of citizens.

” And since the Federal Government has heard and accepted the issues raised by the protesters, it is only wise for the protesters to stop as government needs time to implement their demands.

” The protests have yielded the desired results with the government accepting their genuine demands and working to address all of them.”

Abdullai said that for the first time, Nigerian citizens came out to demand for justice in which the government responded positively.

” The insistence to continue to protest even when government has made concessions is wrong. The open defiance is reckless, provocative. Denial of access to means of livelihood can lead to fracas and conflict.

“The demands of the protesters are nebulous, inconsistent, haphazard, whimsical, and impossible to meet,” he said.

The Miyetti Allah leader commended the maturity and professionalism of the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu, in spite of the violent nature of the protesters.

The IGP’s consistent warning to police officers and their commander against the use of force on protesters, is indeed commendable and has clearly shown that police reform is already taking place.

‘’While, it is citizens fundamental rights of freedoms of expression, assembly and movement, Miyetti Allah is again alerting the public, that desperate politicians have hijacked the protest for personal selfish reason.

‘’This must not be allowed to continue,” Abdullahi said

I didn’t sponsor thugs to attack #EndSARS protesters — Baba Alado

Popular land developer and speculator, Alhaji Taoreed Faronbi, otherwise known as Baba Alado, has denied sponsoring thugs to attack #EndSARS protesters in the Alausa area of Lagos State.

Baba Alado said this during a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Thursday.

The Mushin leader, who wields a large following, said he was shocked to hear that he was trending on social media.

Baba Alado, who is a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, said he had not been to Alausa in almost 15 years, adding that he had no reason to attack any protester.

He said, “They are just telling lies against me. I am telling you now that anyone they catch with a cutlass should face justice. I have no interest in Alausa. The police should shoot anyone that is caught disrupting protests. Why should I attack protesters? What interest do I have in the matter?

“I spent a lot of my time in America these days. I am a strong member of the APC. All they have been doing is to accuse me of land grabbing.

“I don’t even know those behind the attacks but I am sure it is politicians that are behind it. I have no hand in the matter. I am not a policeman. So, if the government says they don’t want protesters, am I the one that would enforce such an order?”

Some armed thugs took to the streets of Alausa to attack protesters on Thursday morning.

The protesters have been demonstrating since last Thursday, demanding an end to police brutality and extrajudicial killings.

However, the protests have intensified despite the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad by the police.

The protests, which have been held in major cities across the country, have caused heavy traffic and affected economic activities.
