    Taraba Assembly passes 2023 Budget of N173bn

    The Taraba State House of Assembly has passed on the budget of N173 billion estimate recently presented by Governor Darius Ishaku into law.

    Though the governor had pegged the estimate at N172,734bn, the lawmakers added N500 million, putting the budget at N173,234bn on Wednesday.

    The bill’s passage followed the adoption of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation report during plenary.

    Speaker of the House, Prof. Joseph Albasu Kunini, said the N500m the House added to the budget was to take care of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission, which was not allocated any funds in the 2023 budget.

    On the loans taken by the state government, Kunini said no government could function without debt, especially when the debts are within the purview of the law.

    “The budget is a transitional one and the government will want to complete all ongoing projects, so the budget is a realistic one.

    “We noticed that TSIEC was not allocated any funds and this government is committed to conducting local government elections periodically, so, there is need to allocate money to the agency to conduct local government elections,” he said.

    Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku of Taraba state has presented first Class Staff of Office to Gara Donga Sanvala Varzoa Shimbura.

    The ceremony took place at the Donzomba Primary School, Donga Local Government Area of Taraba state were wetness by General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma Retired who is the Gangboro of Donga, Royal and religious leaders, politicians, security heads and others attended the ceremony.

    Speaking during the coronation, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku tasked the new Gara Donga Sanvala Varzoa Shimbura to continue with the enduring legacies of the late former Gara Donga Stephen Bayonga who worked for the overall good of his people in Donga chiefdom.

    Ishaku stated that his administration will always rely on counsel from traditional rulers hence the need for them to stop seizing lands of their subjects and work with Government to surmount security problems facing the nation.

    The Governor, employed traditional rulers to uphold peace and unity by carrying everyone in their domain irrespective of tribe or religion.

    Governor Ishaku told the Gara that he is coming at a time when there is need for him to bring to use his education, diplomacy and international relations to improve the lot’s of the people. Of Donga Chiefdom.

    Earlier, the Permanent Secretary Bureau  for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Bello Yero said the bureau is proud to play an integral part of the ceremony.

    Yero described the new Gara Donga Sanvala Varzoa Shimbura as an educated diplomat and administrator that has worked for peace over the years.

    Yero, applauded the many sacrifices of late Gara Donga Stephen Bayonga in the area of peace and development and prayed God for his Soul to continue to rest in peace.

    The installation featured Administration of oath of Office by the Chief Judge of the State Philibus Andetur, presentation of Royal Gifts by the Gangwari of Ganye Adamu Umar Sanda on behalf of the Chamba Nation and traditional dances.

    The new Gara Donga Sanvala Varzoa Shimbura is the tenth Gara Donga with the title Gargbanyi the second.

    The Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Taraba Investment and property limited, Mr. Iliya Ezekiel on Sunday disclosed that the Taraba state government has commenced sensitisation with ten host community in Mambilla Plateau, Kakara in Sardauna LGA, of the state over plan by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku to privatised the multi billion naira Mambilla Breavages Limited.

    Mr. Iliya, who stated this while briefing Journalists in Kakara, Mambilla Plateau said government begins the sensitisation to educate the people of the benefit they would drive at the end of the exercise.

    The Chief Executive noted that government would owe 30% while the remaining 70% will be privatized.

    Mr. Illiya stressed that the host community preferred foreigners to manage the company than Nigerian investors.

    “We are happy that the host communities welcome the idea of the privatisation.

    And they told us that they are all happy with the development, because it is what is happening in the whole world today” he noted.

    He maintained that privitizatation is structure, adding that government is not selling the company to an individual person as speculated.

    According to him “nothing changes in the company, 30% will be for government while 70% will be privatized.

    He added that in order to improve profitability, productivity, efficiency and job opportunities for the benefits of Tarabans, the state Government is proposing to privatize the company to ensure proper and efficient management devoid of Government interference and bureaucracies.

    He urged the general public to disregard any rumours that Mambila Beverages (Nig) Limited belongs to a particular community, stressing that these are rumours by mischief maker’s aimed at creating dissatisfaction and raising unnecessary tension amongst members of the unsuspecting public.

    The Taraba state Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has sworn in Justice Shuaibu Dahiru Ahmad as new Grand Khadi of the Taraba State Sharia Court of Appeal and Khadi Salau Ismailia Madugu of the Sharia Court of Appeal, and the Judge Taraba state Customary Court of Appeal Justice Bulus Nyiputen.

    Performing the ceremony at the Excos Chamber of the Taraba state Government House in Jalingo on Wednesday, Governor Darius Ishaku charged the judges to always do what is right to earn the respect of the people.

    The Governor posited that his administration in establishing a viable Judiciary in the State was able to employ more Judicial Staff, renovated dilapidated Courts and as well improve on their welfare.

    Ishaku advised the Judges to imbibe high level moral and fairness in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities.

    The Governor, implored the Judges to shun primitive and religious sentiments that has hold the nation back and called for closer collaboration between members of the bar and bench for the quick dispensation of justice.

    In their remarks,Grand Khadi of the Sharia Court of Appeal Shuaibu Dahiru Ahmad thanked Governor Darius Ishaku for appointing him and other Judges to man the various Courts.

    They pledged the resolve of the Judges to work in accordance with the law.

    The Taraba State Chief Judge, Justice Philibus Andetur administered the Judicial Oath of Office and Allegiance to the Judges.

    The Judges were later presented with a brand new Corolla vehicle.

    Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku on Saturday ordered security agencies in the state to immediate introduce operation stop and search across the state, especially in Jalingo, the state capital.

    The directive comes after two bombings were recorded in the state within four days.

    The latest bombing was ren Taraba After Two Bombings In Four Days corded at Nukkai Market in Jalingo metropolis on Friday.

    Terrorist group ISWAP has taken responsibility for Tuesday’s bombing which injured 11 person at least.

    “Governor Ishaku described the incident as ungodly, inhuman, barbaric and a deliberate attempt by evil people to distabilize the state,” a statement signed by his spokesperson, Iliya Bekyu Akweh, said.

    “He directed Security Agencies in the state to network through proper investigation to fish out the terrorists whom he said are working relentlessly to destabilize the peace of the state

    “The Governor further directed Security Agencies to immediately introduce operation stop and search across the state especially in the State Capital to check mate the nefarious activities of terrorists and their cohorts who have infiltrated the state recently

    “According to the Governor, it is disheartening for lives of innocent citizens and their properties be destroyed without any act of provocation by criminals who do not have an iota of regard for the sanctity of human lives and assured that no stone will be left unturned to unravel the mystery surrounding their heinous and dastardly act

    “The Governor however advised people of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious persons in their midst to Security Agents for immediate action with a view to averting a recurrence of the ugly incident

    “Ishaku particularly implored the people of the state to avoid public places such as recreational centres and other crowded areas which are possible soft targets of the terrorists, emphasizing that Taraba State needs peace to develop and not bombers to distabilize the state

    “He further frowned at the recent happenings in the state and pointed out that his administration would not allow evil people and their sponsors including those harbouring them to destabilize the peace he had worked hard to restore in the state.

    “The Governor directed the Ministry of Urban Planning and Environment to ensure that hawkers and traders who have establish mini markets at unapproved places in the state capital to evacuate those areas forthwith or have themselves to blame

    “Ishaku further assured the people of the state of his administration’s readiness to rid the state of criminality and advised them to go about their lawful duties stressing that the government was on top of the situation

    “He commiserated with those injured in the blast and are receiving treatment in the hospitals and promised Government assistance to ameliorate their suffering.”

    Taraba state government has commenced the disbursement of scholarship to indegineous students studying in tertiary institutions of learning.

    Executive Secretary, Taraba State Scholarship Board Alhaji Hassan Bappa made this known on Tuesday while speaking with Daybreak news in Jalingo.

    Bappa said that the first batch of the scholarship had commenced disbursement with Taraba State University Jalingo, Taraba State School of Health Technology Takum and School of Nursing and Midwifery Jalingo.

    The Executive Secretary, also mentioned Taraba State College of Education Zing, Taraba State College of Agriculture and Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai as well as some private institutions in the state who have benefited from the exercise.

    He said that the board has adopted both electronic and table payments to over 40 ,000 students in the state.

    Bappa further said that the amount paid varied from programme to programme and from course to course, adding that the minimum amount paid was seven thousand naira.

    The Executive Secretary called on students to support the administration which out of the magnanimity of Gov. Darius Ishaku, approved the funds to better their lot.

    He explained that the payment covered 2020/2021 academic calendar.

    Our correspondent report that Gov Ishaku approved N50 million naira for the payment of schoolership to the Taraba students.

    The Ugondo community resident in Jalingo, Taraba State capital has commended Gov Darius Ishaku for his quick deployment of security for the protection of the displaced persons after the Fulani attack on the Tor-Damsa community in Donga local government area of Taraba state.

    You may recall that suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked 15 communities within the Tor-Damsa area, in Donga local government, killing over 26 people, injuring many, and destroying properties worth billions of naira.

    Hon. Aaron Dooga Gbashi, Leader of the Ugondo Community in Jalingo made the commendation while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Jalingo.

    Gbashi, a former member of the Taraba state House of Assembly representing Donga state constituency, however, appealed to the state government to increase the number of security personnel deployed to the affected area to be able to foster any pending attack on the Tor-Damsa community.

    He also draws the attention of the security agencies to the looting spree launched by Tor-Damsa neighbors.

    The leader also appealed to the state government and well-meaning citizens to provide relief materials to the displaced people in the area.

    Gbashi also called on the Ugondo people to remain calm as the government was taking serious steps to ensure that such attacks did not.

    The sacked Senior Special Assistant to the Taraba state Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku, Hon. Usman Sa’adu Sambo on Wednesday has rejected the press statement issued in Jalingo by the senior special adviser on Media and publicity to Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu that he was sacked from office.

    Speaking with Journalists in Jalingo over the press statement that he was sacked from office, Usman Sa’adu said, he personally wrote to Governor Darius Ishaku on the 31st/12/2021 that he was no longer interested to work with him as his SSA.

    “On the 31s/12/2021, I wrote to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Hon Anthony Jallason that I was resigning of my appointment as his SSA.

    While waiting for his response, today Wednesday the 5th/01/2022, I recieved a call that I was sacked” he said.

    He noted that after written to Governor Ishaku through the SSG, he proceeded to his ward Chairman in Sintali ward and informed him that he was quiting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for his former party, the All Progressive Congress (APC).

    He stressed that he joined the PDP in Taraba because of late Sen. Aisha Jummai Alhassan who was in 2015 victimised by the party at the national level.

    “As you can see, they was no single reason spelt out for sacking me, I worked with governor Ishaku whole heartedly and I choosed to return to my former party, the Apc without any issues” he said.

    He called on Tarabans and his teaming supporters to disregard the purported press statement.

    “They just want to spoil my political career that I have built for years.

    And I must make the point clear that I wrote and informed the governor through his SSG that I was leaving his government” he clarified.

    He explained that he has already obtained a membership card from the ruling All Progressive Congress Apc in Taraba state.

    He informed that he did his registration with the All Progressive Congress Apc on the 2st/ 01/2021 respectively

    Taraba State Governor, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku has relieved Usman Sa’adu, a Senior Special Assistant, of his appointment.

    Gov Ishaku gave the approval for the sack of the political appointee today, Wednesday January 5, in Government House Jalingo.

    A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan- Habu said the removal is with immediate effect.

    Gov Ishaku warns contractors against delay, threatens revocation

    Contractors handling various projects in Taraba State have been urged to sit up or have their contracts revoked.

    This was the directive of the State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, who on Tuesday took his time to commission some projects not executed by him but by individuals in Kurmi Local Government Council of the State.

    He vowed not to hesitate in replacing any contractor that failed to meet up with the contract agreement made with the State government.

    Ishaku, who also spoke on the ongoing marraraba /Baissa road project, said all the needed funds to complete the project have been set aside by his administration.

    He, however, warned that his administration would not hesitate to source for another contractor to complete the project if any of the contractors presently working on the road was found wanting.

    Though works, are still ongoing on the road, the governor has set aside the second quarter of next year for the commissioning.

    Applauding the hands of friendships being extended by the inhabitants of the area to the contractors, the completion of the road, he said, will be in fulfilment of his election campaign promises to the people while canvassing for their votes in 2015.

    With barely 15 months to the expiration of his tenure, the governor, has again promised to bring more projects that would open the council to investors.
