  • Gov Alia Flags Off Construction of Township Roads in Makurdi

    Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has flagged off construction of sixteen township roads within Makurdi Metropolis.

    The Governor who performed the ceremony on Monday in Makurdi contended that the roads would improve transportation network within the capital city, stressing that the projects would stimulate economic growth among others.

    He pointed out that the flag off of the roads construction was a significant step towards achieving his target of providing quality infrastructure for the people.

    “The construction of the sixteen township roads, which is monumental, marks a significant milestone in our commitment to provide infrastructural development in Benue State. This is to prepare a foundation for a new Benue of our dreams as we mark our first 100 days in office”.

    The Governor continued: ” A good road network is the lifeline of any thriving city and Makurdi is not an exception. These well designed roads with there asphalt surfaces, concrete drainages and culverts will improve transportation and connectivity within the city, boost economic activities and enhance the over all quality of life for our citizens.”

    The Governor charged the contractor to deliver the 15.39 kilometer road projects within the stipulated time of eleven months.

    Also speaking, the Covering Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr Nic Joko pledged to ensure strict supervision and inspection of the projects awarded to Triacter Nigeria Limited by the present administration.

    Joko who is the Director, Administration and Supply in the ministry said during the launch of construction of the roads at the keke NAPEP, wurukum Makurdi that he was delighted with the take off of the projects as a fulfilment of Governor Alia’s campaign promises to Benue citizens.

  • I have no Crises With Sen Akume, Says Gov Alia

    Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has denied having any crises with the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

    The Governor who made the denial at the Government House Makurdi at the weekend during his maiden interactive session with Journalists, described the allegation as unfounded and deliberate mischief by saboteurs.

    It was learned that the battle for speakership pitted the Governor against the SGF who is the leader of the party in the state.

    Findings revealed that while Akume preferred Hon Becky Orpin to emerge as Speaker, Governor Alia in collaboration with some stakeholders of the party anointed, Hon Hyacinth Dajoh who eventually emerged the speaker.

    While reacting to a question during the parley about his alleged estranged relationship with the SGF, Fr Alia said ” I don’t have any crises with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume. He is my leader, he is leader of the All Progressives Congress. When there is no crises they want crises to be created.”

    The Governor stated that the present administration is committed to peace building for faster growth of the state. He implored media practitioners to be just in their reportage.

    ” As agents of positive change, your reportage would go a long way to strengthen democracy in our state. I like to appreciate your inputs. We are concious of the fact that we can’t offer effective service without Journalists”.

    In his remarks, the Vice President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zone D, Comr Kris Atsaka urged Governor Alia to improve on the state owned media organizations to enable it operate competitively with other media houses both locally and internationally.

    No Amount of Media Attacks Would Stop Govt’s Assets Recovery, Gov Alia

    Benue State Governor Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia has declared that no amount of social media twisting and peddling would stop government’s assets and property recovery committees from carrying out their mandate.

    Gov Alia in a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Tersoo Kula noted that the present administration is determined to use every lawful means in recovering all government’s stolen assets.

    He stated that Benue citizens who have been victims of eight years of maladministration were behind his government to recovering stolen assets.

    The Chief Press Secretary contended that the Governor entered into a covenant with people of the state to deliver good governance, adding that if he succeeds in entrenching discipline and accountability in management of state resources, there would be development.

    He maintained that the excercise was not to witch-hunt anyone as it is being misinterpreted by people from some quarters.

    The Chief Press Secretary assured people of the state that no amount of Media twist by the opposition to mislead unsuspecting members of the public on what the assets and property recovery committees have achieved would succeed.

    Newly Elected Gov Of Benue Freezes All State Bank Accounts

    Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has ordered all government bank accounts frozen.

    Alia made the declaration in his inaugural speech shortly after taking the oath of office as Governor of Benue State at the IBB Square on Monday.

    The governor said a ‘Post No Debit’ instruction shall remain in force until all signatories are changed.

    He warned all banks to adhere to the directive without delay.

    He said: “May I announce that effective immediately and until further notice, all government bank accounts in all banks are hereby frozen. A ‘Post No Debit’ instruction shall remain in force until all signatories are changed. Any bank that violates this instruction does so at its own risk.”

    During his speech, Governor Alia expressed his commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the state’s finances.

    The Benue State Governor-Elect, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, says he would tap from the wealth of experience and wisdom of elderstatesmen towards effective service delivery to people of the state.

    Rev. Fr. Alia who was speaking when he visited second republic Minister of Communications, Mr Isaac Shaahu at his residence in Gboko, acknowledged his immense contributions to peace and growth of the state and nation.

    The Governor-elect Implored Benue elites to continue to bless the younger generation especially those who seek for knowledge, counsel and guidance to enable them succeed in their different fields of endeavor.

    Responding, elderstatesman, Mr Shaahu applauded Rev Fr Alia for the visit and admonished him to consider all indigenes of Benue as his own children even as he called on him to embrace those who contested against him for the good of the state.

    He enjoined the Governor-Elect to create job opportunities to address the challenge of unemployment in the state for faster development.
