2023: Vote any candidate of your choice – IPOB tells Igbos

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has asked all Igbos who desire to participate in the general elections, to vote for any candidate of their choice.

The group made this known in a statement released by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, on Wednesday, February 15.

Powerful was reacting to a threat issued via an audio by an alleged community leader in Lagos state saying those who fail to vote for a certain party in the forthcoming elections will not be allowed to do business in the locale.

According to the Nnamdi Kanu-led self-determination group, while referendum to determine whether the Igbos will continue with Nigeria or not is its interest, anyone from the South-East in any part of the country has the right to vote for any candidate of their choice.

Any Biafran (Igbo) who wants to vote in this election has the right to vote for any party or candidate of his/her choice, and nobody should direct or threaten them to vote a particular party in their community or state,? IPOB’s statement in part read

  • 2023: Tinubu has been friendly to Igbos in Lagos – Gbajabiamila

2023: Tinubu has been friendly to Igbos in Lagos – Gbajabiamila

•says all tribes enjoy developmental projects

The Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila has urged Nigerians to vote for detribalized leaders that have a deep connection with the grassroots.

He said the most effective means of assessing the dividends of democracy is to vote for leaders who have identified with the people on the street even when they were in and out of power.

Gbajabiamila said Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is the only leader among those contesting for the presidency in the 2023 general elections that knows the challenges confronting the average Nigerians and has always found the best ways to address their issues because he has always identified with Nigerians on the street.

Addressing residents of Coker Aguda and Itire Ikate areas of Surulere 2 Federal Constituency at a rally, Gbajabiamila stressed the importance of voting for leaders who individuals can access at a time of need without the fear of being denied by official protocols.

He said a vote for Tinubu is a vote for an all-inclusive government while citing the developments that have been brought to Surulere 1 and 2 through his membership of the House of Representatives and the government of APC.

He said: “Asiwaju is someone that anybody can see; he is a leader that listens and tries to attend to all issues. There’s nothing like a leader that listens, a leader you know, that you can always run to in times of need.

“Asiwaju elevated Ben Akabueze from commissioner in Lagos to DG of Budget Office of the federation even when Akabueze is from Anambra state. Ben determines the budget of the whole Nigeria; no state in Nigeria can parade the number of non-indigenes and non-Yorubas in government like Lagos.

“I can continue to mention many south easterners that have enjoyed the touch of God and Tinubu in their lives. South Easterners and South South people are trading and living in peace in Lagos.“

While reeling out the different health, education, and road infrastructural projects brought to Surulere 2 and facilitated by him, Gbajabiamila noted that the developments were brought to Surulere 2 where every resident benefits irrespective of ethnic or religious difference.

Gbajabiamila encouraged residents to vote for Tinubu and APC candidates to continue to enjoy quality governance at the grassroots, while adding that their Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is their most prized asset to vote for the candidates of their choice.

While encouraging the residents of Coker Aguda and Itire Ikate not to see themselves in terms of geographical differences of constituencies, Gbajabiamila urged them to reach out and encourage every resident of Surulere 2 irrespective of their state of origin, to vote massively for Lanre Okunlola, Eshinlokun, Sanwoolu, Tinubu and all APC candidates in the general elections.

“When you vote for Tinubu, Sanwo-Olu, Eshinlokun, Okunlola, Desmond Elliot, Sangodara, myself, and all APC candidates, you will have more than double the physical developments you are witnessing now,” he added.

Biafra: IPOB leader Kanu capitalizes on Igbos’ naivety, anger – Okorocha

Senator Rochas Okorocha has described Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, as a smart man who took advantage of the Igbo’s unhappiness and naivety.

Okorocha made the remark during a chat with Arise TV while commenting on IPOB’s secessionist agitation in the Southeast
Okorocha insisted that most Southeast youths are not secessionists but angry Nigerians railing against the system, making them easy targets for IPOB’s agenda.

“The issue of IPOB is very controversial and they are the agitations of some young men seeking for relevance who even disrespected me during my tenure as a governor; I don’t see them as secessionists.

“They had been told that the rest of the country hates them. Nnamdi Kanu is a smart man who got these people to think as he wanted,” he said.

Buhari not against Igbos, will release Nnamdi Kanu – Air Peace Boss

The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has expressed hope that President Muhammadu Buhari would release Nnamdi Kanu, a pro-Biafra activist.

Onyema said Buhari would release Kanu if approached properly.

The business mogul spoke at an event in Lagos over the weekend.

Onyema stressed that the president is not against the Southeast.

He urged the people of the Southeast to use wisdom in the fight against injustice.

According to Onyema: “This president, President Muhammadu Buhari, quote me, I say it again, he is not against Ndigbo. If you approach him the right way, he will listen.

“President Muhammadu Buhari will one day release our brother [Nnamdi Kanu].

“Myself, I don’t know Buhari but I have put forward certain requests, and he honoured them. He honoured my requests.”

This is coming at a time when Buhari visited Imo State, after criticisms of ignoring the Southeast.

Prior to his trip, Buhari was criticized for marginalizing the Igbos in his government.

Meanwhile, Kanu is locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, following his rearrest.

  • Northern elders fault non inclusion of Igbos in new set of Service Chiefs

Northern elders fault non inclusion of Igbos in new set of Service Chiefs

The Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development, CNEPD, has noted with concern the exclusion of the South East from the appointment of new Service Chiefs.

The elders observed that the exclusion of the region was contrary to the unity and oneness of the country’s founding fathers.

The group, however, expressed delight with the sacking of service Chiefs and appointment of new ones by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group in a statement by its National Coordinator, Engr. Zana Goni, enjoined the President to quickly balance the equation by reviewing the appointments to reflect the nation’s federal character principle.

According to the statement, it is when the President reviews the appointment of the service Chiefs that it would reflect fairness and equity in the country.

The statement stated, “We completely throw our weight behind Ohanaeze Ndigbo on their position over the appointments of the new service chiefs.

“We vehemently appeal to Mr President for a review of the appointments to accommodate our Igbo brothers from the South East region in line with the federal character principle of the country.

“We are absolutely sure that taking this action will make the designers of our country happy where they are watching.”

Following the worsening insecurity in parts of the country which the group had suggested for the sack of the service Chiefs and overdue tenure with perceived low morale, the group thanked President Buhari for eventually taking action by relieving the service Chiefs of their appointments.

The elders explained that they received with great excitement the news about the sacking of the former service chiefs of the country by Mr President, adding that it is quite commendable that the President finally listened to the clarion call by Nigerians to that effect.

The statement noted that the composition of the service chiefs greeted them with mixed feelings and sincere concerns, stressing their belief that the list is deficient.

“We strongly believe that the list is not fair as it is lacking in fairness, justice, and equity to the south easterners.”

The elders said they had hoped that by now, the president would have learned some lessons that the Igbos are also Nigerians and deserve to be fairly and godly treated.

The elders asked, “How can there be an appointment of two sets of service chiefs without any Igbo person among them? Is this fair? What exactly has the Igbo people done to deserve this kind of unfair treatment?”

The group observed that their careful checks revealed that Igbos have senior and very qualified military officers in the Navy, Army, and Airforce who are serving faithfully in their various capacities! asking what their sin is?

They stated clearly that the appointment of service chiefs is the prerogative of the president as he can choose to appoint anyone from any zone, asking what made the other geo-political zone more important than the South East?

The Northern elders called on Ndigbo to remain calm and continue their unalloyed support to the Buhari’s administration, saying the development should not shirk their beliefs in the Nigeria project as according to them, the situation would be remedied.

  • #EndSARS: Northern elders disown Prof. Ango Abdullahi over statement against the Igbos

#EndSARS: Northern elders disown Prof. Ango Abdullahi over statement against the Igbos

Professor Ango Abdullahi has been disowned by the Northern elders, over his recent statement of many northerners being killed in the South East during the #EndSARS protests.

The Northern elders under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Elders for Peace and Development condemned the allegation and further described it as “false, unfortunate, insensitive, callous and meant to instigate Nigerians against one other”.

The group’s National Coordinator, Engr. Zana Goni and National Women Leader, Hajia Mario Bichi insisted that Abdullahi acted alone, and further asked Nigerians to ignore it as it was personal.

    The statement read;

“We wish to condemn in the strongest possible terms the statement credited to a well-read and respected elder statesman from our region, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, to the effect that Igbo people killed many northerners in the South East during the #EndSARS protest which was hijacked by some sponsored criminal elements.

“This statement is false, unfortunate, insensitive, callous and meant to instigate Nigerians against one other. Making this unfounded claim, especially at a time Nigerians had worked past the ugly civil war experiences and are building bridges and consolidating on national reconciliation, is the least unfortunate.

“We wish to let Nigerians know that Prof. Ango Abdullahi’s statement was his personal opinion and did not represent the position of Northern Elders as he had portrayed, “the statement read.

“We expect that an elder statesman of his status with such level of education ought to have known the difference between criminality and ethnic agenda.

“What happened in some southeast states was a pure act of criminality and not an Igbo agenda and was not peculiar to the region.

“How can he say Igbo people killed Northerners? Nothing can be more misleading than this.

“People were killed and properties destroyed in several parts of the country including some parts of the North. It is unfair to attribute this act of some misguided deviants as a collective Igbo agenda.”

“It is an established facts that during and after the uprising, so many Igbo group rose to condemn the attacks by these criminals and even shared intelligence with security agencies which led to the arrest of so many of these misguided youths.

“Prominent groups in Igbo land also condemned the activities of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, in public. So we wonder where Prof. Ango got his fact from.

“It is our humble appeal that we guide our comments especially those capable of igniting hate across the country.”

“We must continue to preach national unity and work together to defeat criminality in our country instead of attributing such act to a particular region,” they tasked.

“We, therefore, call our Northern and Southern brother to ignore this statement in its entirety.”
