Independence Day: IPOB orders sit-at-home on October 1

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday called on Nigerians from the Southeast to observe a sit-at-home on October 1, 2020.

IPOB said the sit-at-home order was aimed at expressing displeasure over the bad governance being experienced in Nigeria.

In a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, the group called for total lockdown on October 1.

According to Powerful: “We, the global movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) ably led by our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to announce to all Biafrans, friends of Biafra and lovers of freedom all over the world that Biafrans across the globe shall observe a sit-at-home in Biafraland and where permissible in the diaspora, join our Yoruba brethren agitating for Oduduwa Republic, in public protests to mark the October 1, 2020. We, therefore, enjoin all Biafrans and every conscious Nigerian, especially those ethnic nationalities reeling from the triple double blow of state sponsored terrorism, bad governance and economic annihilation, to boycott every government organised ceremony designed to eulogize the failure that Nigeria has become. This is the time to let the world know how disastrously intolerable human existence is in Nigeria today.

“If you want to see an end to terrorism and organised mediocrity, now is the time to register your anger by ensuring that you and your household sit at home on October 1, 2020. Do not risk the life and well-being of your children by allowing them to gather in groups in the open where terrorists may find it easier to blow them up or kidnap them. There is credible intelligence that terrorist groups are planning to slaughter our children should they venture out to celebrate or march on October 1st.

“This order is to highlight our position and resolve as Biafrans that we are no longer interested in propping up a crumbling terrorist state. The leadership of this great movement in conjunction with supporters of Biafra freedom across the globe have concluded every arrangement to let the whole world know and understand that we are no longer part of this shambolic monument to terrorism and failure. As this long expired man made contraption marks her abused independence on October 1st this year, we IPOB will appropriately declare our intention towards the full and irreversible restoration of Biafra sovereignty and independence for all oppressed ethnic groups in Nigeria.

“Complete and total lockdown of Biafraland and other terror ravaged areas of the Middle Belt come 1st of October 2020 is sacrosanct, irreversible and non-negotiable! Wholesale slaughter of innocent Judeo-Christians and state sponsored ethnic cleansing cannot be going on in our land at the same time as fake jamborees are being organised by the same sponsors terror attacks,⁹ in order to deflect our attention away from the imminent danger we are all in.

“We, therefore, urge that all markets, schools and businesses in Biafraland and beyond be shut down as a mark of respect to all those who have died as a result of terrorism against innocent civilians especially Christians, ethnic cleansing in Southern Kaduna and elsewhere across the Middle Belt. Everywhere in Biafraland must be under lock for Nigeria and the world to know that we are all united in our march toward total freedom. There should be no public events or ceremonies in Biafraland to avoid any needless loss of lives.”

Enugu killings: Dialogue will resolve IPOB’s agitation – Anyanwu

Former senator who represented Imo East senatorial district, Samuel Anyanwu, has called on the federal government to dialogue with secessionist group, Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) instead of using military to molest and victimize the group.

Anyanwu who condemned in strong words, the recent attack on members of IPOB in Enugu State which left many dead, wondered why the FG could absorb repented members of a terrorist group like Boko Haram and continues to treat the nonviolent Biafra group with disdain.

The former Imo House of Assembly lawmaker further said that the ugly trend would have been nipped in the bud if the federal government had sought for a truce with the secessionist group.

According to a release signed by his media aid, Ikenna Onuoha, “IPOB members are made of the Igbos whose activities are devoid of rancour, violence and acrimony. I wonder why the security agents who are expected to protect the masses could carelessly engage the people with live bullets leading to waste of lives and property.

“The attack on innocent members of the IPOB by the security agents which led to several losses of lives is condemnable.”

He advised the Federal Government to desist from the use of force in a purely civil matter which should have been resolved amicably.

In the same vein, he called on the Inspector General of Police to bring anyone connected to the ugly incident to book while appealing to members of IPOB to operate within the ambit of the law as contained in the 1999 constitution. He said further killings will be forestalled if the FG would adhere to his advice.

It will be recalled that some security agents last week in Enugu State attacked unarmed members of IPOB and left many dead during a peaceful demonstration.

IPOB, DSS Clash: Killing of unarmed youths is condemnable – Peter Obi

Former Anambra Governor, Peter Obi, has condemned the recent killings in Emene, Enugu State.

A clash between the Department of States Services (DSS) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) a week ago left some persons dead.

The DSS confirmed that it lost two operatives.

The Biafra agitators too said members were killed, with many currently in detention or missing.

On Saturday, Peter Obi stated his position on Twitter.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Vice Presidential Candidate in 2019 demanded a thorough investigation.

“The recent killing of unarmed youths in Enugu is condemnable, just as the senseless killing of Nigerians in any part of the country.

“I join well-meaning Nigerians in calling for a panel of inquiry to be set up to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing to avoid such recklessness in the future”, he tweeted.

“Stay off Igbo land” – IPOB issues warning to Miyetti Allah over vigilante group

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday, warned the Miyetti Allah vigilante group to steer clear of the southeast region.

IPOB issued the warning in response to an alleged plan by Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore to formally launch its nationwide vigilante group.

A statement signed by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, warned that the group was fully ready to defend the Southeast against any incursion by Miyetti Allah’s vigilante.

IPOB alleged that the vigilante group was aimed at fulfilling the Islamization agenda of Usman Dan Fodio.

The group, however, warned that Miyetti Allah vigilantes would meet stiff resistance in the Southeast.

According to the group: “It has come to the attention of the global family of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, that the Miyetti Allah Hore Kautal, has perfected plans to formally launch its much -talked -about national vigilante group. According to our intelligence, Miyetti Allah also wants to deploy its vigilantes across the country immediately after the launching.

“We know their mission; contrary to the lies they are feeding the gullible public with, they are rather coming to fulfill the order by their father, Usman Dan Fodio who, in 1960, charged Muslims to deep the Quoran into the Atlantic Ocean. But we assure them that they will meet their Waterloo in the entire Biafra land.

“We want to declare in unmistakable terms, that no Miyetti Allah vigilante is needed or will be allowed to operate in any part of Biafra land. They may operate in other parts of Nigeria but not on any Biafra soil.

“IPOB is ready for them irrespective of the sophistry of those backing them. We are very formidable and fully ready to defend our land against these vampires! We don’t need them, and will never give them any inch of our land. We shall repel them and chase them back to the Sahel.

“How can we allow globally recognized terrorists and those who rape and maim after butchering others to police our communities? This can never happen!”

Army places troops on high alert over DSS/IPOB clash

Nigeria’s military authorities have placed troops of 82 Division, Enugu, on high alert following the clash between the operatives of the Department of State Services and the Indigenous People of Biafra in Emene, Enugu.

The military also asked troops to avoid individual movement in uniforms outside the barracks in order to prevent reprisals by IPOB members.

The violent clash which happened on Sunday was said to have claimed many lives, including two DSS officers said to be on patrol before they were allegedly attacked by IPOB members holding a meeting in the area.

But the Army in a signal dispatched to different formations and unit commanders asked troops to be at alert and avoid individual movement in uniforms outside the barracks.

It also warned troops to avoid losing their weapons to criminal elements, adding that commanders must sensitise their men to maintain high alert.

“Following the killing of two DSS personnel at Emene and subsequent attack on Keystone Station at Awgu LGA by suspected IPOB members in Enugu State, I am directed to place troops on a high state of alert.

“This is necessary to avert any attack by IPOB members on troops location in the AOR (area of responsibility). Furthermore, on no account must troops allow their weapons to be taken away by criminal elements.

“Commanders at all levels must make deliberate efforts to sensitise troops under command to maintain alertness and avoid individual movement in uniforms outside the barracks for now. Please treat it very important and act,” the army signal said.

“We lost 21 members in the clash with DSS,” claims IPOB

….DSS says IPOB killed two officers

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that officers from the Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) killed 21 of their members and took 47 others into custody in a Sunday clash.

Spokesperson for the group, Emma Powerful, said IPOB members were picked up from different locations in Enugu on Sunday and are being held.

“Nigerian government and her security forces should stop killing our people because we are a peaceful organisation,” he said.

He said in a statement that without provocation, agents gate-crashed into an IPOB meeting and “began shooting sporadically which consumed the lives of 21 members.”

He said the action will not deter the members from being peaceful and non-violent.as they press for independence for Biafra.

“We are not a violent group and there is nothing they can do to change our resolve to maintain peace in our land. The efforts of the Nigerian Government in trying to push IPOB to change their tactics will amount to vanity.”

But the DSS has said two of its operatives were killed by members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) during the clash.

A statement issued by DSS said the two personnel died “in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by IPOB on the team.”

The security agency, has, therefore, vowed to track the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“DSS wishes to inform the public that its patrol team was, today, August 23, 2020, attacked in Emene, Enugu State by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“The service lost two personnel in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by IPOB on the team,” the statement signed by its spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, said.

The police chief said the suspects may have been planning an attack on security agencies.

He said: “It is believed that the group is planning an attack on security agencies to snatch weapons.”

According to Akinmoyede, the native doctor had removed bullets from one of the suspects who had gunshot injuries in the past.

He said: “It is also noteworthy that the group attacked and snatched two rifles from policemen during a violent protest in 2018, which were later recovered from a kidnap gang in a robbery operation.”

Operatives of the 34 Field Artillery Brigade intercepted the IPOB members at about 09.30 am at Mmahu Egbema checkpoint.

The operatives, Akinmoyede said, called for reinforcement from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Egbema, who swiftly mobilised to the scene.

The CP said: “This organisation has been proscribed by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful asked the government and to security agencies to let IPOB members be.

He said they mean no harm.

Powerful added: “We are warning the Nigeria government and her security agencies to let IPOB be because we are peaceful in all our activities since the formation of this noble movement to liberate our people.

“Nigerian security operatives are deriving joy in arresting and slaughtering IPOB family members since 2015 while their brothers, herdsmen and their Boko Haram counterpart, are busy causing mayhem throughout Nigeria without security officers struggling to stop them.

“We are calling on Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State to instruct his country’s security to release our members before it is late.”

IPOB vows to retaliate Bayelsa massacre

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has vowed to retaliate recent killings in Aziko community, Bayelsa where suspected herdsmen slaughtered a pregnant woman and her husband in their home.

IPOB, in a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, condemned the incident while condoling family of the victims.

He said:”We strongly condemn this atrocity and the persistent killings in Biafra land and we assure the perpetrators of this heinous crime and their sponsors that they will regret their actions very soon.

“We cannot explain why the world is still keeping quiet over the on-going genocide in Biafra land but we know that herdsmen footsoldiers and their sponsors behind this evil will never go unpunished.

“IPOB cannot allow these blood suckers to go free with these barbaric killings.

“We won’t allow these vampires to replicate their atrocities in Southern Kaduna in any part of Biafraland.

“Should they keep pushing us to the wall, no part of Biafra or even the country will be a safe haven for them anytime we start paying them back in their own coin.

“IPOB has been monitoring and watching them closely, and we know their evil but futile plot to possibly eliminate Biafrans. But that evil mission can never be accomplished in our life.”

He restated the recent killings of innocent people at Azikoro community in Bayelsa State will show the killers and their sponsors “this present generation of Biafrans is not the same with those of 1967 and 1970. These coordinated attacks and killings in our land must stop.

“May we remind Biafrans once again that everyone both man and woman must be prepared because the right time for revenge is fast approaching, their continued mayhem must be resisted.”

He noted: “What is happening in Southern Kaduna where herdsmen, Boko Haram, bandits and other groups are busy slaughtering innocent Christians without any hoot by government is an indication that Nigeria is already a failed state. But IPOB is ready to repel them from Biafra land no matter the cost.”

He assured the herdsmen attack at Azikoro town in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State would mark the end of jihadists in our Biafra land.

Abia CP warns IPOB to steer clear from burial of Kanu’s parents

The Abia police command on Monday warned the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to steer clear from the burial of Eze Israel Kanu and his wife, Sally, both parents of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ene Okon, who gave the warning in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia, said that the command would disrupt the funeral should IPOB attend the ceremony.
Federal Government in September 2017 proscribed IPOB, following an order of a Federal High Court, Abuja, declaring the group as a terrorist organisation.
He said that the command had made its position clear to the Traditional Prime Minister of Afara-Ukwu Ancient Kingdom, the community of the decessed.
He said that he would not fold his hands and watch a proscribed group operate in the state.
“If they fail to adhere to what we have told them, it means they do not want the burial to go on smoothly because we are going to scatter the place.
“IPOB is proscribed by the federal government and I, as the commissioner of police in Abia, cannot sit here and allow any proscribed group to operate anywhere in this state.
“I am saying this again for emphasis that there is no way police will allow a proscribed group to participate in the burial,” Okon said.
According to him, the command will not take anything for granted, considering the abundant intelligence on threat by IPOB.
He said that members of the group were free to attend the burial as individuals and sympathisers like other members of society.
The police chief, however, warned that the command would react, “if IPOB flag, insignia or any form of identification of the organisation if seen at the burial”.
Kanu escaped from Nigeria, after the group was proscribed as a terrorist organisation.
Kanu’s mother reportedly died in a German hospital in August, 2019, while his father died in December.
They will be buried on Friday, February 14 in their country home in Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state. (NAN)
