    Kogi Police Command Confirms Kidnap Of a Monarch, Killing Of a Widow By Gunmen In Kogi

    The Kogi state police command
    has confirmed the abduction of the traditional chief of Oghara, an agrarian community in Kabba-Bunu local government area of Kogi state by unknown gunmen.

    The Command spokesman, SP William Aya, while confirming the incident, said the hoodlums were said to have arrived the palace around 3am on Tuesday while residents were sleeping and shot sporadically to scare residents before gaining access to the palace.

    “Chief David Obadofin a major cashew farmer and one of his boys, Temidayo Elewa were said to be seated in front of his house enjoying the cool breeze, when the sporadic gunshots jolted them to alert.”

    It was gathered from the command that one Toyin Onare, a widow who had gone to lend a hand in the farm received a bullet. Promptly, the gunmen whisked the traditional ruler and Temidayo, away abandoning the poor widow in a pool of blood. One person, however, escaped, to tell the story.

    Toyin was rushed to hospital in Kabba, headquarters of the LGA, about 35 minutes drive away. Unfortunately, she was confirmed dead on arrival.

    “This is a terrible situation. Fulani herdsmen have long surrounded us. We raised alarm when they started coming, but our concerns were ignored. Now we are seeing the result. This is unfortunate. Government should quickly come to our rescue,” a source crave anonymity said.

    One person was reportedly killed in a robbery attack on the convoy of an Abia monarch HRH Eze Engr. Ude, who was said to be in the company of four others.

    The incident, it was gathered happened along Abia State University (ABSU), Uturru road in Isuikwuato Local Government Area.
    Unconfirmed reports identified the deceased as one Okehi, who died on the spot while the traditional ruler suffered serious bullet wound injury.

    The robbers were said to have laid an ambush along the ABSU-Uturu road and opened fire on sighting the victims.
    The victims were said to have been coming into Isuikwuato from Okigwe when they met the gunmen.

    Sources disclosed that the attack happened few meters away from where they sell cashew nut that branched off to Ihube and the stretch before the military checkpoint towards ABSU gate.

    The traditional ruler and other survivors were reportedly receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital as at the time of filing this report.
    It was gathered that barely a month ago, the wife of an aide to the Minister of State for Mines and Power, Dr. Uche Ogah was shot dead by gunmen along the same road.

    Nigeria Army Troops of Operation Safe Haven have arrested eight suspects in connection with the kidnap of a traditional ruler in Plateau State, Charles Mato Dakat.

    It has earlier been widely reported that Dakat, a Paramount ruler in Gindiri LGA, was abducted by gunmen who attacked his palace last Sunday around 1am.

    He was, however, rescued in the early hours of Friday.

    According to Punch, Confirming the arrest of the eight suspects in a statement on Friday shortly after the monarch regained his freedom, the Military Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven said, “While the Paramount ruler of Gindiri in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, Chief Charles Mato, has been with his abductors, the commander Operation SAFE HAVEN, Major General Ibrahim Ali, placed the troops deployed at Gyanbus on red alert and the hot trail of the perpetrators.

    “Consequently, Eight suspects were arrested in connection with the kidnap incidence and are being interrogated. Following this development, the paramount ruler, early this morning of Friday 31 December 2021, was released by his abductors.”

    The statement added that “Operations SAFE HAVEN is still very much on the ground to ensure all those involved in the kidnap of the traditional ruler are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.”

    The Olufon of Ifon in Ose local government area Ondo state, Oba Adegoke Adeusi, has been reportedly murdered by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. Our correspondents reports that the traditional ruler, who was returning to Ifon from Akure after a meeting, ran into the barricade of the kidnappers along Elegbeka area when the incident happened.

    Daybreak gathered that his driver attempted to maneuver his way to avoid the kidnappers when they shot at his vehicle. Oba Adeusi was said to have been hit with bullets and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was confirmed dead.

    A source reportedly disclosed that the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who was informed about the incident, rushed to the hospital where the monarch was confirmed dead. The state police public relations officer, Tee-Leo Ikoro, said the command had been trying to get in touch with the divisional police officer in the area to confirm the incident. Sahara Reporters in its report said that a security source said Oba Adeusi was earlier kidnapped before he was killed. The source was quoted to have said: “The king had earlier attended the meeting with all Obas in Akure and while on his way he was kidnapped which caused apprehension in the community. “But while we were trying to ensure his rescue, we saw that he had already been killed by the kidnappers. It is very sad.”
