    By   Milcah   Tanimu

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has reportedly ended his association with agent Roberto Calenda following a series of unsuccessful transfer negotiations. The fallout between Osimhen and Calenda comes after failed moves to Chelsea and Al Ahli, which had garnered significant attention over the summer.

The dispute appears to have reached a tipping point, with Osimhen taking charge of his own transfer negotiations for a move to Galatasaray, excluding Calenda from the process. This shift marks a significant change in strategy for the Napoli forward, who had previously relied heavily on Calenda.

Calenda’s inability to secure the transfers was a major factor in the fallout. Despite strong defense of Osimhen’s position, including dismissing speculation about moves to Chelsea and Saudi Arabia, the agent was unable to finalize these deals. The complications were further exacerbated by a hefty €130 million release clause in Osimhen’s Napoli contract, which reportedly hindered potential transfers.

The situation has led to criticism from Italian media, with reports suggesting that Osimhen was treated like an unwanted commodity. In a decisive turn, Osimhen is now working with intermediary George Gardi for his Galatasaray move, indicating a likely permanent split from Calenda.

Osimhen’s departure from his agent is not unprecedented; he has previously changed representation during his career, including his moves from Wolfsburg to Lille and Napoli.

The head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, has acknowledged that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is currently unhappy, despite finishing 8th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or rankings. Osimhen, who plays for Napoli, has been battling a hamstring injury sustained while representing Nigeria in October.

Peseiro encouraged the 24-year-old forward to stay positive and maintain his efforts while recovering from the injury, which has kept him out of action for Napoli since October 8. Although Osimhen is set to return to Napoli after spending time in Nigeria, he will not be playing against Union Berlin in the UEFA Champions League match later tonight.

Additionally, Coach Peseiro has ruled Osimhen out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Lesotho scheduled for this month. Despite the recent challenges, Osimhen remains a contender for the 2023 CAF Player of the Year award due to his outstanding performance last season.

Peseiro expressed his admiration for Osimhen’s achievement in the Ballon d’Or rankings, stating, “To have come eighth in the world and first in Africa in this voting is extraordinary.” He acknowledged Osimhen’s current dissatisfaction, mentioning the injury, transfer market rumors, contract issues, and a TikTok video incident that have surrounded the player recently.

Osimhen, who has scored six goals in eight games for Napoli this season, is expected to undergo further testing upon his return to Naples to assess his recovery progress, with plans for his return to the field by the end of this month.

Premier League giants Liverpool have entered the race to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, sending scouts to observe the Napoli player during the international break.

Osimhen was linked with a transfer away from Naples in the summer after an impressive 2022/23 season with the Italian club. The Nigeria international scored 26 goals in 32 league appearances, helping Napoli win their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Despite staying with Napoli, Osimhen’s future remains uncertain following a social media controversy in which the club’s TikTok account mocked him. Clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with Osimhen, and now Liverpool has expressed interest in securing his signature.

The Sun, a British publication, reported that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp dispatched a club scout to watch Osimhen in action for Nigeria. The scout saw Osimhen play for 59 minutes in Friday’s 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia before he was forced off with a hamstring injury.

Liverpool is seemingly preparing a list of potential forward targets as they anticipate the possible departure of Mohamed Salah in 2024. Salah was the subject of a £150 million bid from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad during the summer transfer window.

While Liverpool managed to retain one of their most valuable assets, there is a belief that there will be further interest from the Saudi Pro League next year. If they decide to pursue Osimhen, it may require a bid in excess of £100 million to lure him away from Napoli.

Napoli, however, remains hopeful of extending Osimhen’s contract, which currently runs until the summer of 2025.
