Governor Adeleke faces criticism for appointing his nephew, who just completed NYSC, as Board Chairman.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State faces severe backlash for appointing Tunji Adeleke, the son of his late elder brother and former governor, Isiaka Adeleke, as a board chairman.

Tunji, a recent graduate from Adeleke University in 2020, and who served in 2022, has been appointed as the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission.

Remarkably, this appointment comes merely two weeks after Governor Adeleke also appointed Adenike Adeleke, the wife of his late elder brother, as a state commissioner.

Adeleke’s decision to appoint his family members into prominent positions in the state has stirred controversy on social media.

A Twitter user, @Realadeshina, expressed their disapproval, saying: “Congratulations Tunji Adeleke as Osun State Chairman board of local government. This disgrace is getting too much.”

@simplysnipe said “Most people didn’t know or heard of the guy before, now they know him. I’m just loving the news coming out of Osun, the second Edo State. Next now is for our dancing governor to be commissioning disgraceful projects as an achievement but Osun people will blame the president.”

@IkotunEmmy said, “ I told them when they were shouting “imole”. Adeleke should be ready to face a massive vote-out in the next election. Osun does not fall for mediocrity twice. The unfortunate thing is retrogression the state would have suffered.”

Similarly, @MustyOsun said, “I never knew we could still operate a constitutional monarchical system.”

Akin Akinwale wrote: Whatever appointment Ademola Adeleke is making, whatever ineptitude he is displaying, it serves Osun State people right.

“That said, I don’t have a problem with appointing your family members into your government (silly tho’). But I am after the competence. Is Tunji Jnr competent? If he is, all the best.”

Osun Athletes Rally Against 10-Year Neglect and Poor Welfare by Government

Over 80 athletes employed by the Osun State Sports Council recently staged a protest by barricading the entrance to the Osogbo City Stadium. The athletes expressed their dissatisfaction with the alleged inadequate attention given to their welfare by the state government. Despite appeals, the athletes refused to vacate the entrance, causing disruption for stadium employees attempting to access their offices. The protesting athletes claimed that they were not duly rewarded for their achievements in representing the state and winning medals in 2012.

The protesters also raised concerns about the lack of job opportunities provided by the sports council, despite vacancies being available. Islamiyat Yusuf, a weightlifter and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist, expressed her disappointment with the inadequate training facilities and poor welfare packages for athletes.

“We are here to voice our grievances and fight for our rights regarding athlete rewards, training facilities, and the absence of employment opportunities for athletes under the state government,” Yusuf stated. “Athletes are enduring hardship here. Many of us have relocated to other states with better welfare packages. Even as a Commonwealth medalist, the training facilities I have access to are far from satisfactory.”

In the midst of the protest, Rotimi Dunmoye, the General Manager of the Osun State Sports Council, was seen attempting to appease the protesters but declined to comment on the matter.

Gov Adeleke Rejects Tribunal Judgment, Vows to Appeal

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, says he would appeal the judgment sacking him as governor of Osun state.

Adeleke described the judgement of the governorship election petitions tribunal as “a miscarriage of justice” as he vowed to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.

Adeleke, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner of the governorship poll held on July 16.

In August 2022, Gboyega Oyetola, former Osun governor, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) petitioned the tribunal to challenge the victory of Adeleke.

Among several issues, Oyetola contended that there was overvoting in 749 polling units across 10 LGAs of the state.

Delivering judgment on Friday, Jan. 27, two out of the three-member panel of the tribunal held that the petitioner was able to prove that there was indeed over-voting in some of the polling units.

Consequently, the majority judgment of the tribunal ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun.

Reacting on Twitter, Adeleke wrote: “I want to use this opportunity to call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let everyone be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate. God bless Osun!”

The build-up to Saturday’s primary highlighted a division within the ruling party in the state following a disagreement between incumbent Governor Oyetola and his predecessor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola.

This prompted the former governor to seek to unseat Oyetola whom he supported to succeed him in September 2018. Aregbesola, who serves as the Minister of Interior in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet, has now declared his support for Adeoti, as his anointed candidate for the forthcoming election.

The primary also came with drama and controversy as the members of the camps of the minister and governor traded blames and accusations, including accusing each side of instigating violence. Both sides denied doing anything to disturb the peace or to illegally influence the outcome of the poll.

Notwithstanding the disagreement, the minister asked members of the party in the state loyal to him to conduct themselves in a peaceful matter throughout the exercise.

While the primary was in progress, the faction of the APC loyal to the minister condemned it.

In a statement by its spokesman, Abiodun Agboola, the faction alleged widespread irregularities in the exercise conducted by the Osun APC Primary Election Committee led by Governor Abdulrasaq of Kwara State.

“The Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq led Osun APC Primary Election Committee should know that the primary lacks credibility and fairness,” it said.

“It is necessary and important to inform the general public and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq led Osun APC Primary Election Committee of the ongoing irregularities in the conduct of the primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State of Osun.

“We strongly condemn the conduct of the primary election because it is nothing but a sham with a fraudulent process to favour Governor Adegboyega Oyetola. Verified information from the agents of Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, our governorship aspirant, has it that there are no records and result sheets in any of the 332 wards of the state.”

Governor Oyetola, on his part commended the process, and described as free and fair after voting.

  • How son of Hilton hotel owner, Ramon Adedoyin discarded OAU Student’s corpse in bush – Osun Police

How son of Hilton hotel owner, Ramon Adedoyin discarded OAU Student’s corpse in bush – Osun Police

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, on Monday revealed that the son of Dr Ramon Adedoyin, owner of Hilton Hotel who is now at large, organised the dumping of the body of Timothy Adegoke, a Masters’ Degree student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, into the bush after being found dead in the hotel.

The commissioner, who made this known on a radio programme in Osogbo, the state capital, said the act was carried out with the assistance of two managers.

CP said, “One of the receptionists of the hotel who was on duty believed that the victim paid for two nights, and that he entered the room on Friday between 5pm and 6pm on Friday, adding that by Sunday he would have left. She was the one who went to that room to discover that after several knocks and no response, she came to look for a spare key.

“Each of the staff, manager, auditor, checker and others believed that it was their duty to report to the management of the hotel.

“After reporting to the MD, he rushed down to the hotel. The MD now asked two of his managers to join him and convey the corpse. And up till that point, they believed that, he was taking the corpse to the police or hospital.

“The MD who drove the vehicle himself, drove them to a bush and asked them to throw the corpse into a bush and instructed them not to reveal it to anyone. The personal property of the corpse was also thrown into the bush according to them.

“We combed the bush and up till now, nothing of such was found. Timothy died inside the room in Hilton Hotel and the corpse after two days was discovered which was taken to a bush about 2km away from the hotel and thrown into a bush.

“Meticulous investigation of police discovered where the corpse was buried against the claim that it was thrown. Six suspects were arrested. The suspect confessed that the corpse was found in one of the rooms in the hotel.

“Three of the staff packed the corpse and threw it into the bush. None of them confessed to the actual killings but right now the corpse was taken to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.

“None of the staff informed the police. It was the report of the missing person that made the anti-kidnapping team to discover the body after their meticulous investigation, trailed the so-called missing person to that hotel and then traced the corpse to where it was found.

“Adedoyin was arrested. He came when the police required his presence at the station. I am not aware of any video or audio from suspects. I cannot comment on what I am not aware of. We have done everything humanly possible to do justice to the investigation. The autopsy will guide us in prosecution.”
