    Gunmen Killed In Attempted Attack On Imo Police Station

    Several gunmen, suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), have been killed in an encounter with the police in the Orlu area of Imo State, security sources confirmed on Friday.

    A confirmed police source stated that members of the proscribed group were on their way to attack Orlu Police Station on Thursday evening.

    They were, however, ambushed and killed on Thursday in a joint counter-attack by the military and police operatives.

    The security sources confirmed that several stolen vehicles used by IPOB militants in their operation were also recovered. A video of them earlier setting out for the attack has also been released.

    The video showed the militants boarding vehicles as they embarked on the twatted operation.

    Orlu, the location of the attack is the second-largest city in Southeast Nigeria.

    This comes about two weeks after a joint operation comprising the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army and Department of State Services killed IPOB’s Number 2 man, Commander Ikonso, and six other members of the group.

    Security sources told Channels Television that Ikonso was killed in the early hours of April 24 with two other members arrested.

    The late IPOB leader was also said to be the coordinator of all the operations of the group in the South-East, including the attack on the Imo Police Headquarters on April 5 and several other attacks on security and military personnel and facilities.

    Security operatives were said to have stormed the IPOB’s operational headquarters in Awomamma village, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, where they engaged the gunmen in exchange for fire.

    Commander Ikonso, alongside six others of his colleagues, eventually fell to the superior firepower of the security operatives.

    Ikonso is said to have carried out series of violent attacks on security personnel and formations in the South-East and South-South of the country.

    The operation is part of deliberate efforts by the police and other security forces to quell the activities of insurgents in Imo State and other states of the southeast and South-South region of the country.

    Several sophisticated weapons including six AK-47 rifles, hundreds of ammunition of different calibre, and charms meant to ward off bullets were recovered from the gunmen.

    The Police Command in Anambra State have confirmed the killing of two of its personnel by unknown gunmen who attacked and razed the Divisional Police Station in Obosi, Idemili North of the state.

    Reports had it that DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, who confirmed the attack to newsmen said the attackers had after burning down the station, moved to the quarters where they killed the two personnel in the early hours of Thursday.

    Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Chris Owolabi had dispatched a tactical team for on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

    “The tactical team led by an Assistant Commissioner of Police was directed to have an on-the-spot assessment of the place.

    “The team was equally told to possibly identify and apprehend the hoodlums that perpetrated the attack,” he said.

    Ikenga further revealed that the bodies of the two policemen had been deposited at a nearby morgue, adding that investigation into the matter had began.

    Gunmen have reportedly attacked and razed down a police station in Uzoakoli, Bende local government area of Abia State.

    The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.

    While details of the attack were still sketchy at the time of filing the report, it was gathered the gunmen overpowered the policemen on duty and released suspects in custody.

    It was however not clear if they invaded the police armoury.

    Three Officers Killed, Others Injured As Gunmen Invade Ebonyi Police Station

    Three officers have been killed and two others injured after gunmen invaded the Onueke Police Station in the Ezza Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. 

    Confirming the development, the Ebonyi State Police Command said investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

    The command’s spokesperson, DSP Loveth Odah, disclosed that the gunmen invaded the police station and opened fire on the officers on duty which led to the killing of three policemen and injuring two others.

    DSP Odah further revealed that the unfortunate incident which took place on Friday led to the death of two inspectors and another officer on guard at the station.

    A woman who was said to be in her house within the premises of the police station was also killed.

    According to Odah, the corpses of deceased officers and the woman have been deposited in the morgue while an investigation into the ugly incident is ongoing.

    The spokesperson said normalcy has since returned to the area, adding the situation is now under control.

    She said some arrests have been made while efforts are still on to apprehend others at large.

    Dsp Odah further stated that Ebonyi experienced peace throughout the festive periods and blamed the sad development on some faceless individuals bent on disturbing the peace of the State.

    BREAKING: Angry Mob sets Anambra police station on fire

    A mob on Wednesday set ablaze a police station in Igboukwu in the Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

    An eye witness who gave his name as Goddy said the police station was put on fire around 8am on Wednesday.

    He said trouble began when some policemen on duty in the area killed a commercial motorcyclist on Tuesday night over extortion.

    He said, “As I’m talking to you the place is in flames. The mob, made up of commercial motorcycle operators, are moving to Ekwulobia police station now to also set the station there ablaze.”

    The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident.

    He said the Commissioner of Police in the state, John Abang, had ordered the arrest of the officer who killed the commercial motorcyclist while appealing for calm.

    He said,” On Tuesday about 10.30pm, there was an altercation between police operatives and motorcycle riders over some impounded motorcycles as a result of the recent restriction on movement of motorcycles beyond 9 pm in the State.

    “The situation degenerated into chaos which led to an accidental discharge that hit one motorcycle rider and burning of the Igboukwu police station by irate youth.

    “The Commissioner of Police, John Abang, is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and has ordered the detention of the policemen involved and full-scale investigation into the matter.

    “The CP further appealed for calm and assures the public that justice would be done in the case and the outcome of police investigation shall be made public in due course.”

    ension has gripped Delta State as armed thugs set ablaze a police station in Asaba, the state capital, on Thursday.

    The miscreants, SaharaReporters gathered, allegedly invaded the Warri Correctional Centre (Okere Prison) in the Warri South Local Government Area of the state, shooting sporadically and setting free some inmates at the facility.


    Our correspondent reliably gathered that the thugs numbering over 100 stormed the police station at Akwuofo, Asaba, at about 1:00pm on Thursday and set the entire building on fire.

    They moved to the police Special Protection Unit in the area in an attempt to set it ablaze but were repelled by security personnel there.

    As at the time of this report, banks and business premises had been shut down in the area for fear of being attacked by the thugs.

    It was also learnt a protest was currently ongoing at Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of the state by young persons, who have barricaded all major roads leading in and out of the community.

    Recall that the office of the Federal Road Safety Corps along the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha Expressway and the beautification garden at Koka Junction, Asaba, were on Wednesday night set ablaze by thugs.

    Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had on Thursday morning announced a 48-hour curfew across the state.

    The governor also ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the state until November 2, 2020.

    Layeni Police Station at Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of Lagos State has been set on fire by suspected hoodlums.

    Report also had it that the Pako Police Station is under attack.

    Our correspondent also gathered that some hoodlums attacked Ajeromi Police Station but repelled by policemen.

    An eyewitness, Ladipo, said at least eight persons were injured.

    He said, “The crisis started from Orile Iganmu. People were protesting peacefully and the police shot at them. Later, the boys heard that policemen have killed their people at Iganmu, they also burnt Layeni Police Station.

    “There is tension everywhere. We have rushed eight people to the hospital. They were critically injured.”

    When contacted on the telephone, the Chief Press Secretary of Ajeromi Ifelodun LCDA, Sheriff Fakunle, said, “Yes, it is on fire. Layeni Police Station has been torched. The incident happened around 11 am.

    “At Ajeromi police station, the hoodlums were repelled.”

    The incident occurred around 09.45 am, according to an eyewitness.

    “The burnt Station is in Apapa Iganmu but serviced both Iganmu community in Apapa Iganmu and Orile Community in Coker/Aguda.”
