Athletic Club earned a thrilling 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in their latest La Liga showdown. Played at San Mamés, the match featured a dramatic second half. Athletic took the lead in the 53rd minute when Álex Berenguer netted a stunning goal, putting the hosts ahead.

Real Madrid responded in the 78th minute, with star midfielder Jude Bellingham leveling the score after a well-placed header. However, just when it seemed Madrid might secure a point, Athletic Club’s Gorka Guruzeta scored in the dying moments of injury time (90+1′) to give the hosts all three points.

The win sees Athletic Club maintain a solid position in the La Liga standings, while the loss leaves Real Madrid with more work to do. This match highlighted the competitive nature of the Spanish league, with both teams giving it their all.

Athletic Club’s hard-fought victory will be remembered for its dramatic finale, leaving fans and analysts buzzing about the outcome. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will focus on bouncing back in their upcoming fixtures .

Rangnick: Haaland Now Best Striker Over Mbappe

Austria’s head coach, Ralf Rangnick, has declared that Erling Haaland has surpassed Kylian Mbappe as the best striker in world football. Rangnick’s assertion comes as Haaland, the ManchesterCity star, continues to dominate the field, outshining Real Madrid’s Mbappe with his incredible performances in the 2024-25 season.

On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe has faced criticism following a disappointing Euro 2024 performance with France and a slow start to his La Liga campaign with Real Madrid.

Before Norway’s 2-1 victory over Austria in the UEFA Nations League, Rangnick remarked, “Until a few months ago, I would have said that Haaland and Mbappe were the best strikers in the world. At the moment, I think Haaland is the best, but that is also because Kylian is not in top form. Haaland hardly has any weaknesses. For his size, he is extremely fast, agile, and has incredible jumping power.”

Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappe’s transition to Real Madrid has been met with mixed reviews. Although he made a promising start by scoring in the UEFA Super Cup, he experienced a three-match goal drought in La Liga before finding the net twice against Real Betis.

A source close to Real Madrid commented on Mbappe’s start, stating that while it hasn’t been perfect, there’s no cause for concern. “It’s as you would expect: an adaptation to a team that has changed a lot and in which he has to find his place. And he is finding it,” the source told The Athletic.

As both Haaland and Mbappe continue to evolve, the football world eagerly watches to see who will ultimately reign supreme as the best striker in the world.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 3-1 in the El-Clasico to overtake their fierce rivals at the top of La Liga on Sunday.

Karim Benzema opened the scoring in the 12th minute by converting a rebound after Marc-Andre ter Stegen saved from Vinicius Junior, with Fede Valverde drilling home the second from the edge of the box before the break.

Ferran Torres pulled one back for Barcelona in the final stages after good work by Ansu Fati, but Rodrygo won and converted a late penalty to ensure Carlo Ancelotti’s reigning champions inflicted Barcelona’s first domestic defeat of the season.

  • Real Madrid Beat Liverpool To Win 2021/2022 Champions League

Real Madrid Beat Liverpool To Win 2021/2022 Champions League

Vinicius Junior scored the only goal of the game as Real Madrid beat Liverpool 1-0 in Saturday’s Champions League final in Paris to become kings of Europe for a record-extending 14th time after a night marred by problems outside the ground that led to the kick-off being delayed by over half an hour.

Brazilian winger Vinicius turned in Fede Valverde’s enticing low cross in the 59th minute at the Stade de France and Liverpool could not find an equaliser as Jurgen Klopp’s side lost to the Spanish giants in a Champions League final for the second time in five seasons.

The Anfield side will wonder what might have been had the outstanding Thibaut Courtois not pushed Sadio Mane’s shot onto the inside of a post when they were on top in the first half, as they fell short of a trophy treble.

Winners of the English League Cup and FA Cup this season, they just missed out to Manchester City for the Premier League title and were denied a victory here which would have put them level with AC Milan on seven European Cups.

Instead Real have a fifth Champions League in nine seasons to go with their Spanish title, as Carlo Ancelotti becomes the first coach to win European club football’s greatest prize for a fourth time.

Ancelotti was also in charge of Real when they won the 2014 final having also triumphed with AC Milan in 2003 and in 2007, the latter victory coming against Liverpool.

    Delayed kick-off

The match kicked off 35 minutes later than the planned 9:00 pm (1900 GMT) start in the French capital after chaos at entrances to the stadium led to fans being unable to get to their seats.

UEFA said it was “sympathetic” towards those affected and put the huge build-ups of supporters at gates down to “thousands of fans who had purchased fake tickets which did not work in the turnstiles”.

Tear gas was also fired by police as a small number of people could be seen trying to scale fences around the perimeter of the groud.

The final was only moved to the French capital after Saint-Petersburg was stripped of the game following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February.

The delayed kick-off may have been responsible for the slow start to the game itself, as it took 16 minutes before there was an incident of note, Mohamed Salah turning a low Trent Alexander-Arnold cross towards goal only for Courtois to save.

Liverpool were seen as favourites to avenge their loss to the Spanish giants in the 2018 final in Kyiv and they began to take control of the game.

Mane came agonisingly close to opening the scoring in the 21st minute as he skipped his way into a shooting position inside the box only for Courtois to tip his net-bound shot onto his right-hand post.

Klopp’s side, with Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara starting in midfield after overcoming fitness worries, were on top but could not turn their superiority into a lead.

    Outstanding Courtois

Real, meanwhile, created almost nothing in the first half with Karim Benzema quiet, but their captain briefly thought he had got the breakthrough two minutes before the interval.

The Frenchman prodded home after the ball broke back to him inside the area but the offside flag was raised.

The decision to disallow the goal was upheld after a lengthy VAR check, despite Fabinho deflecting Valverde’s touch through to Benzema.

Yet Ancelotti’s side kept their nerve and were rewarded with the goal as the hour mark approached.

Valverde drove forward down the right before firing a low ball across the face of goal for Vinicius to turn it in at the far post past his Brazilian national team colleague Alisson.

Just like in 2018, Real had drawn first blood, but this time there was no need for them to send on Gareth Bale in order to ensure victory.

Courtois was superb, flying to his right to keep out a Salah curler before two saves in quick succession late on.

First the Belgian got down low when substitute Diogo Jota deflected Salah’s effort towards goal, and then he produced a strong arm to turn a Salah strike behind.

    It was Real Madrid’s night.

UCL Last-16 Draw: Atletico Madrid To Play Man Utd As PSG Draw Real Madrid

The organizers of the UEFA Champions League, one of the most prestigious football competitions in the World, have released an updated last-16 draw for the tournament after the initial draw was voided following a “technical problem.”

“Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League round of 16,” a chastened UEFA announced.

The re-draw took place three hours later, and Liverpool now face Serie A champions Inter Milan, Chelsea drew Ligue 1 winners Lille – having done so in the first draw as well – while Manchester City will take on Sporting Lisbon.

Real Madrid will feel the most unfairly treated by the “technical error” as they were drawn against Portuguese Benfica in the morning but are now set to face a strengthened Messi’s PSG instead.

  • Mbappe will play for Real Madrid one day or another, Benzema says

Mbappe will play for Real Madrid one day or another, Benzema says

Kylian Mbappe will play for Real Madrid “one day or another”, 0according to his France teammate and Los Blancos striker Karim Benzema.

Media reports say La Liga giants Real Madrid offered Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) 200 million euros (237 million dollars) on deadline day.

It was a whopping sum for a player in the final year of his contract.

However, it was said that PSG failed to respond to that bid — Real Madrid’s third during the window.

It then meant Mbappe will remain in Ligue 1 to form a mouth-watering attack alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar at the Parc des Princes this term.

However, Mbappe looks certain to agree a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid in January, with the forward having his heart set on a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Benzema is excited by the prospect of teaming up at club level with his Les Bleus teammate.

He has scored 135 goals in 175 games for PSG at a rate of one goal every 101.61 minutes.

Speaking in an interview, Benzema said of Mbappe: “He is a player who will play for Real Madrid one day or another.

“We get along really well, I would like him to be with me today in Real Madrid.”

Benzema was speaking in the aftermath of France’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, a 2020 FIFA World Cup qualifying match.

It was a game that saw Didier Deschamps’ side finish with 10 men after Jules Kounde was sent off.

The point keeps France top of Group D on eight points after four games, four clear of Ukraine who have drawn all of their matches in the pool so far.

“We would have liked to win this match here, in France, in front of our fans,” Benzema added.

“In the first half we made good moves, and in the second half, with the red card, we fell back a little, which is normal when we play [with] one less.”

  • Real Madrid close in on Mbappe, secure extension with Casemiro

Real Madrid close in on Mbappe, secure extension with Casemiro

Kylian Mbappe arrived at the training ground of French clubside Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Friday amid the expectation Real Madrid would push to complete his signing in the coming hours.

Mbappe wore a white baseball cap and white T-shirt, and whether by accident or design that only fuelled anticipation of a blockbuster move to Los Blancos.

One deal Real Madrid did complete on Friday was with midfielder Casemiro, who has signed a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2025.

The Brazilian’s original deal was set to expire at the conclusion of next season.

According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid have offered 170 million euros (200 million dollars) plus 10 million euros in add-ons for Mbappe.

Mbappe, 22, has entered the final year of his PSG contract and there has been no indication of a desire on his part to extend his stay.

He would be able to leave on a free transfer at the end of the current season, were he not to agree new terms.

PSG sporting director Leonardo was also pictured making his way into the training facility.

Earlier this week, Leonardo expressed dissatisfaction as the saga unfolded, with PSG having heavily invested during the close season to assemble a formidable squad.

They have brought in Lionel Messi from FC Barcelona in a staggering move, as well as acquiring the likes of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum and Achraf Hakimi.

Messi could make his debut against Reims, but that factor was being overshadowed by the prospect of PSG possibly losing Mbappe.

The Frenchman is a player they hoped to build the team around for years to come.

Leonardo said on Wednesday: “We cannot be happy with this situation, because we did something this summer.

“We have created a dream, we will not let anyone destroy it or position themselves above the club.

“Kylian is at the centre of the project but not above it. We created a positive atmosphere, a desire, an emotion. That was our plan.”

Casemiro will now remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for a further two years after putting pen to paper on fresh terms.

The 29-year-old is the latest player to extend his stay in the Spanish capital after Karim Benzema and Federico Valverde also committed their future in the past week.

Casemiro has made 288 appearances for Real Madrid since arriving from Sao Paolo on an initial loan spell in January 2013, scoring 30 goals.

He has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the club, winning four UEFA Champions League titles, three FIFA Club World Cups and Spanish La Liga on two occasions.

The Brazil international was also part of the Selecao squad which won the 2019 Copa America.

Real Madrid submit $188 million bid for PSG star Kylian Mbappé, according to reports

Spanish football giants Real Madrid have made a €160 million ($188 million) bid for Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé, Spanish media reported on Tuesday.CNN has not been able to independently verify L’Equipe’s or Le Parisien’s reporting.PSG sporting director Leonardo said the club have turned down an initial bid from Real Madrid.”Yes, we said no verbally to Real,” Leonardo told RMC Sport. “No one is being held back. If someone wants to leave and our conditions are met, we’ll see.””The offer is considered to be a far cry from what Kylian is worth today. We also owe part of this money to Monaco and we consider that the bid is not sufficient.”Our position has always been to keep Kylian, to extend his deal, that has always been our goal and still is.”The 22-year-old World Cup winner joined the Parisian club from AS Monaco initially on loan in 2017, before the deal was made permanent in 2018.The Frenchman’s current contract with PSG expires on June 30, 2022 and he is yet to sign a contract extension.

Neither PSG, Real Madrid nor Mbappé’s lawyers were immediately available for comment when contacted by CNN.Mbappé has scored 133 goals in 174 games for PSG and was the top goalscorer in Ligue 1 last season with 27 goals.Earlier this month, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said he hoped the arrival of Lionel Messi at PSG would convince Mbappé to stay at the club.”I think everybody knows the future of Kylian — he wants to win, he wants to win trophies,” Al-Khelaifi told a press conference.”He said it in public, he wants to have a competitive team and we have the most competitive team in the world. There is no excuse for him now — he can’t do anything else but stay.”

  • Real Madrid make £137m transfer bid for PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid make £137m transfer bid for PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid have made a £137m (€160m) bid to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

The La Liga giants reportedly made the offer on Sunday August 21, and Paris Saint-Germain are yet to respond to their proposal.

Mbappe is out of contract at the Parc des Princes next summer and he has so far refused to sign a new deal, despite PSG’s attempts to get the France international to commit his future to the club.

The 22-year-old has told PSG that his dream is to play for Real Madrid, who have been linked with a move for the World Cup winner throughout the summer transfer window.

Mbappe has scored 133 times and made 63 assists in 174 games for PSG in all competitions and has helped them towards 11 major domestic honours, including three Ligue 1 titles.

He arrived from Monaco on an initial season-long loan in 2017 and was signed permanently for £165.7m a year later.

It was earlier reported that the deal would see Mbappe move to Real Madrid with Cristiano Ronaldo to move to PSG from Juventus.

Ronaldo is also out of contract next summer and has not told Juventus he wants to leave, but the Serie A club would not stand in his way if another club bid for him.
