Shasha: Buhari Should Call Governors with evacuation Notice to Order – AYDA

    By Gabriel Udeh, Kaduna

The Arewa Youth Development Association (AYDA) has described what happened in Sasha Ibadan, Oyo state capital as a tragidy, portraying the Image of Nigeria in a bad shape in the eyes of the world.
    .
The Association made the call in a statement issued in Kaduna Monday and signed by its natural President, Comrade Imrana Nass.
AYDA described the incident as unfortunate and capable of leading to a serious division among all parts of the country.

The Ibadan issue courses a lot of problems between the indigenes of the country “as some amongst the Governors are giving northerners time to vacate from their states.

“We have a reports that most of the affected People who are living in a places like shasha Ibadan in Oyo state were back home in the north, especially Sokoto state where the Governor himself well come the Sokoto indigenes from Ibadan.

“And we knows such People are traders that are boosting the economy of places like shasha Ibadan and by extension the state in general, because they are paying revenue to the government, even the school fees, transportation, rents and all forms of buying and selling that is geared toward the boosting of economic activities of the state.

“No single state in the north that is even trying to tell those from some part of west and southern parts to vacate which is not good for the country.

“Don’t hide under the trying time that Nigeria is in especially the issue of herders and kidnappers to maltreat a tribe or people from other part of the country”.

“Before the world is thinking is between herders, Fulani and the Yoruba lands but it comes cleared that is just a tribalism, sectional differences that some want to bring into the country for their own selfish interest

“That is why we as a non governmental organisation Arewa Youth Development Association are saying no and we mean a capital to the ideology like that can lead to divide the country

“And equally saying and Propagating that staying together Nigeria as one country is the only option for the benefit of all.

“We are calling on the federal and state Government to as matter of urgency take all the necessary majors to tackle and bring the end of something like that, even if it means calling those involved into order because Nigeria is one and it will remain as one no two way about it.

*We don’t need those with unwanted ideas to put into practice of their bad thinking that can destroyed the Good name if our father land

“That AYDA as an association trying to help Nigerians towards development, we are calling on President Muhammadu Buhari as a number one citizen of this country to call any leader to order at what ever capacity the person he is.

“Those with evacuation notice should know that they go against the constitutional provision, its cleared that what they are doing is going against the constitutional provision.

Because Its spelt out in the constitution that every citizen have right to live any where his or her own choice to do all lawful business, so where those giving a notice to Nigerians got their own?

“Some are using herders or people from the north to cause confusion in the country forgetting that their own people are every where in Nigeria”.

Reps asks Nigeria Police to investigate Shasha violence

…to join Buhari’s panel on consultations

The House of Representatives has asked the Nigeria Police Force to conduct a speedy and thorough investigation into the recent violence in Oyo State, to allow for prosecution and punishment of those who instigated and participated in the killings and destruction of property.

Speaker of the House, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, who announced this in an address on the Shasha violence and the rising spate of inter-ethnic violence in the country at Tuesday’s plenary, said the House would not sit back while Nigerians are killed by their fellow countrymen.

He said the Committees on Police Affairs and Justice were mandated to communicate the House’s position to the Inspector General of Police.

Gbajabiamila also said the House welcomed the committee constituted by President Muhammadu Buhari headed by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, to hold peace and unity consultations across the country.

“We will constitute a working group to participate in these consultations. We will work together to examine the cultural, religious, and localised conflicts over land and history that are often at the root of internal security challenges and violent upheavals such as occurred in Oyo state last week and other parts of the country over the years,” Gbajabiamila said.

While commiserating with the families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate incident, the government and the good people of Oyo State, the Speaker assured all Nigerians that the House would work, “within the powers available to us, to prevent reoccurrence of similar incidents, not just in Oyo State, but across our country – North, West, East and South.”

Describing the House as a microcosm of Nigeria, which represents every tribe, region, creed and religion, Gbajabiamila said: “we owe a duty to the people we serve, to do the things we believe sincerely in our hearts can improve the circumstances of their lives.

“Today, we serve that duty by calling on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to conduct a speedy and thorough investigation into the recent violence in Oyo State, to allow for prosecution and punishment of those who instigated and participated in the killings and destruction of property.”

Gbajabiamila urged all those who have large followership of people who listen to them and respect their voices, to be more circumspect about the information they share, the language they use, and the conversations they enable.

“The words we use about each other can have outsize consequences on our nation’s peace and stability because words have the power to build and also to destroy.

“And to political leaders, let me reiterate that we have a greater responsibility to keep the peace in our country. And to do that, we must first commit ourselves to the cause of equal justice and fair treatment for all.

“Only then, can we wage peace with resolve, secure in the knowledge that with peace, a more prosperous union is within reach.”

  • Osinbajo Condemns Shasha Violence, Calls For Peace

Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has condemned the violence that led to the loss of lives at the Shasha Market, in Oyo State, calling for peace between the northern traders and those in the southwest.

Professor Osinbajo made the appeal while addressing journalists after he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Lateef Jakande in Lagos State, describing the incident as unfortunate and tragic.

The Vice President said the market has been a melting pot for traders bringing foodstuff from the north to the southwest for decades and they have lived in peace and even inter-married.

He believes that when a disagreement arises between individuals or a criminal act is committed by one against the other, Nigerians must ensure that they see it for what it is, (a criminal act) which must be punished according to law and not as an ethnic conflict.

The Vice President also believes that every Nigerian has a constitutional right to live, work and enjoy their lives in safety, peace under the law.

He, therefore, maintained that it is the duty of government through the police and other law enforcement agencies to arrest and prosecute any person who commits a crime against a citizen and it is also the role of the citizen to assist the police to identify the criminals.

“We must never take the law into our own hands, if we do we will be promoting chaos, and a breakdown of law and order, and all of us especially the most vulnerable amongst us, will be at risk.  I urge all community leaders to work together to preserve the brotherly co-existence that our people from different parts of the country have enjoyed in Shasha market for several decades,” Osinbajo said.
