    SUBEB Chairman Challenged Wealthy Individuals To Encourage Education Of Less Fortunate Families

    The Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu threw the challenge yesterday while distributing school uniforms to 144 pupils of Kajiji Model Primary School.

    Abbas Tukur Sanyinna in a statement said Alhaji Altine Shehu said the call become imperative inview of the fact that many children in the society nowadays could not attend basic schools simply because of the inability of their parents could not provide them with uniforms and other learning materials.

    According to him children belongs not only to their immediate parents but rather the entire society hence the need for wealthy to imbibe the culture of sponsoring more especially the education of children of poor in their midsts for the overall development of the society.

    He explained that failure to do the needful in this regard will continue to produce youths with limited thinking of indulging into criminal activities as their only way of having a means of living.

    Turning to the uniforms he has distributed, Alhaji Altine Shehu said it was in fulfilment of the promised to that effect made when he visited the school on the fifth of October 2022 where he met quite a number of pupils without uniforms.

    According to him at the first instance he personally pledged to provide school uniforms to only those he met without them during his inspection visit but later expand the gesture to categories of pupils that need them in the school.

    Kajiji to this end called on parent of the benefited pupils to complement the gesture by sending their children in school and maintaining the good sanitary condition of the uniforms.

    No fewer than 453 local contractors on Thursday participated in an open bidding for the construction/renovation of public schools and other facilities recently advertised by the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB).

    The Executive Chairman, Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, said the bids were for 2020/2021 FGN-UBEC-SUBEB’s infrastructural renewal and educational development projects.

    He added that the bid, conducted in the presence of the contractors and few government officials at the premises of the Board, followed Governor Seyi Makinde’s directive about government contracts adhering to public procurement process for transparency and accountability.

    Dr. Adeniran said a total of Two Hundred and Twenty-three (223) projects were bidded for under the FGN-UBEC-SUBEB’S intervention project. 

    Applauding the present administration’s efforts in the Education sector, Adeniran noted that in spite of the State Government’s spending on various developmental projects in the areas of Health, Road construction, Agriculture, Social Welfare and a host of others which have been yielding positive results, the Board has also been able to roll out four years Intervention Projects in three years of assumption of office.

    “His Excellency’s resilience in resuscitating the ailing standard of education in the State is highly commendable”, he said.

    “This can be unequivocally stated as an unparalleled achievement that needs to be applauded”, Adeniran added.

    He stressed that the annual intervention fund runs to billions of naira which is jointly and equally contributed by the State and Federal Governments for the development of Basic Education in the State. 

    Adeniran hinted that Oyo State has accessed all the accrued funds till date, saying “it should be accentuated that our State is doing brilliantly well in terms of developmental projects”. 

    Dr. Adeniran appreciated the State Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement and her team for their ethical proficiency in ensuring and sustaining the best practices of Public Procurement Act.

    He also applauded the efforts of the Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission in facilitating free and qualitative Basic Education in a conducive learning environment for every Nigerian child, irrespective of their location in the entire country.

    Speaking at the bid opening exercise, the representative of Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. (Mrs) Aisha Abdul attested to the Oyo State Government’s commitment and passion to the Basic Education sector.

    She applauded the efforts of the Board in ensuring transparency, fairness and accountability, which has not been compromised.

    She appealed to the successful contractors to follow the contract modalities and regulations guiding the projects.

    The Projects bidded for include:

    (i)Construction of a block of 4 classrooms: 15

    (ii)Construction of a block of 3 classrooms: 46

    (iii)Construction of ECCDE Pilot Centres: 5

    (iv)Construction of Perimeter Fence: 7

    (v)Renovation of blocks of classrooms: 53

    (vi)Sinking of borehole: 39

    (vii)Sinking of deep well: 2

    (viii)Procurement of Furniture which has been broken into 56 lots (total of 8533 desks & benches as well as 502 pairs of teachers’ tables and chairs).

    The event was witnessed by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education; Bureau of Public Procurement; Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology; Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors; Nigeria Society of Engineers.

    Others present were Nigerian Institute of Architects; Nigeria Institute of Estate Surveyors and Valuers; and Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

    Contractors Handling SUBEB Projects Urged for Timely Completion

    Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji gave the directives today shortly after inspecting some of the ongoing projects in the state capital.

    Alhaji Altine Shehu said the call become necessary as the State Government/UBE 2019 intervention projects were aimed at providing improving learning atmosphere thereby reducing congestion in all the basic schools across the state.

    According to him those handling the renovation exercise have two month while the new construction have three month within which to complete the work.

    He said the State Universal Basic Education Board under his watch is committed to go round all the areas where the contracts were awarded to monitor the speed and quality of the work being undertaken by contractors.

    Kajiji however warned contractors against using low quality materials as the board will not accept shoddy job from any contractor.

    Places visited are renovation of one block of three classroom at Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa Model Primary School, construction of two blocks of three classrooms each at Yakubu Mu’azu Science Model Primary School, construction of one block of three classrooms and renovation of another block of three classrooms at Muhammad Zako Model Primary School Runjin Sambo area.

    The rest included construction of one block of three classrooms and renovation of another at Madawaki Abubakar Nizzamiya Primary School Gandu, renovation of one block of three classrooms at Sultan Ward Primary School as well as renovation of one block of three classrooms at Rijiyar Dorawa Primary School.

    While on his way to Muhammad Zako Model Primary School Alhaji Altine Shehu made a stop over at Sultan Abubakar College where he directed the immediate repairs of damaged parts of a roofing of a story building class.

    The subeb boss was also at FGN/UBE Direct Intervention Skills Acquisition School along Tashar Kura road which will be handed over to subeb after it’s completion.

    He was accompanied by the Deputy Director Project Development Bello Umar and Zonal Project Inspector Central zone Sanusi Umar Bunu.

    Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji made the pledge when he received the Executive Members of Waziri Model Primary School Old Boys Association who paid him a thank you visit in his office.

    Alhaji Altine Shehu said the board has secured over nine thousand double seater furniture ready for distribution to public primary and junior secondary schools across all the nook and cranny of the state.

    According to him since his appointment as the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board,he is having a sleepiness night thinking about how best to improve the standard of basic education in the state.

    Public Relations Officer Abbas Sanyinna further said Kajiji explained that the Aminu Waziri Tambuwal led Administration through the board has recently award contract for massive construction and renovation of public basic schools in addition to the distribution of teaching and learning materials worth millions of naira.

    He thanked the 1993 chapter of Waziri Model Primary School Old Boys Association for it’s continued concern to their Alma Matter especially their determination to safeguard the furniture provided to the school and urged them to sustain the tempo.

    Speaking earlier the Chairman of the 1993 chapter of Waziri Model Primary School Old Boys Association Comrade Abdullahi Shehu Bazza said the visit was aim at thanking the subeb boss for the numerous gestures done to their former school.

    These according to him included provision of over one hundred double seater furniture as well as learning and teaching materials to the school.

    He said as part of their contribution to safeguard the furniture, their association will repair all the damage doors and windows in the school for improve security.

    Comrade Abdullahi Shehu however asked the subeb boss to urgently intervene as some people in the area have started construction of shops attach to the school fence,a situation which will threatened the security of the school.

    Special prayer led by the chief imam of the association Malam Bello Sarki was later offered for successful tenure of Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji as subeb boss.

    The visit was witnessed by the Director Planning of the board Alhaji Umar Mohammad Yabo.

    Sokoto SUBEB Presents 2022 Trophy To Yabo For Winning LGEA Basic Schools Debate Competition

    Speaking shortly after the final encounter held in the auditorium of Sultan Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies Sokoto between Yabo and Wamakko, the Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji said the board under his stewardship is committed to Improving curricular and extra-curricular activities in all the basic schools across the state.

    Alhaji Altine Shehu said this is imperative in consideration of the contribution of extra-curricular activities to shaping the brains of Pupils as well as making them physically fit.

    He commended the Department of Primary Schools for successfully organising the inter Primary School championship which is keenly contested among all the basic schools across the state.

    Kajiji promised that the board is more than ready to encourage winners of the championship as they will soon represent the state at the national level of the competition.

    He said being him a retired season teacher who loves nothing above teaching profession is anxious to ensurinq that public basic schools can compete favourably with private schools in the state.

    Turning to the welfare of teachers,Kajiji hinted that effort is on to Improving the pay of teachers through implementation of the pending promotions of the committed and dedicated ones among them.

    In their separate Goodwill Messages,the Directors of Quality Assurance Dr Adamu Abdullahi Mogonho,JSS Ibrahim Aliyu,ECCDE Farouk Katune and Director Sokoto Education Resource Center Abdullahi Maishanu praises the contestants of the championship for their composure,smartness,zeal and courage.

    They also commended their teachers for an excellent mentoring as well as the Primary Schools Department for organizing the competition.

    Earlier in a welcome address the Director Primary Schools of the board Hajiya Fatima Ahmad Tafida said the debate championship was organized with the support of the Universal Basic Education Commission as part of preparation of the forthcoming national level of the competition.

    She thanked the State Universal Basic Education Board under the leadership of Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji for its total support and cooperation to ensurinq the success of the championship.

    Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of a trophy,medals and cash prizes to Yabo LGEA for capturing first position as well as Wamakko,Sokoto South and Illela for emerging second,third and fourth position respectively.

    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Matawallen Sokoto has direct the immediate construction of perimeter wall at the northern part of Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki Model Primary School in Sokoto South Local Government.

    Executive Chairman State Universal Basic Education Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji who announced the development said the governor’s prompt intervention followed phone call with the number one citizen in the state to intimate him on the unhealthy nature of some parts of the school after his unscheduled visit there.

    Kajiji further noted that a contractor has since been directed to immediately start the fencing work in addition to construction of two toilets for the female teachers of the JSS section of the school.

    The SUBEB BOSS explained that if completed the perimeter wall will serve as security to the school by preventing trespassers access into it’s premises and defecate.

    The State House of Assembly has commended the Management of the State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB for embarking on unscheduled visit to Primary and Junior Secondary Schools across the State.

    Puvlic Relations Officerof the Board, Abbas Tukur Sanyinna said, the Chairman House Committee on Education Alhaji Buhari Haliru Yarima gave the pass mark today during a meeting between members of the committee and officials of Sokoto SUBEB held at the committee room of the House of Assembly.

    Alhaji Buhari Haliru Yarima said the unscheduled visit emberked upon by the board has no doubt started yeilding fruitful result and called on them to keep it up.

    This he noted will assist in no small measure toward improving the quality of basic education in the state.

    According to him the present administration in the state has invested heavily in the education sector hence the need for all stakeholders to contribute their quater for uptimum result.

    Turning to the meeting,Yarima said it was summon to discuss issues related to the smooth conduct of SUBEB activities.

    Alhaji Buhari Yarima to this end assured the new leadership of the board that the door of the committee will remain open for proper suggestions and advises.

    Earlier the Executive Chairman SUBEB Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji described the meeting as timely as it create an avenue between the board and the Members of the committee to discuss issues concerning the basic education in the state.

    Alhaji Altine Shehu thanked the committee for recognising the board’s effort and pledged to sustain the tempo through constant supervision and monitoring of schools under the board.

    Other Members of the committee who spoke during the meeting include Deputy Speaker Abubakar Magaji,Malami Ahmad Basakkwace,Tukur Bala Bodinga,Sulaiman Hantsi Romo and Faruk Mustapha Balle.

    It was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary of the board Alhaji Ahmad Rufa’i Ibrahim, Permanent Members and Directors of the board.

    In his effort to ensure proper teaching and regular reporting of teaching staff in schools under the Sokoto Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB),the Executive Chairman of the Board,Altine Shehu Kajiji has undertaken unscheduled visits to some schools in the state.

    At Bodinga the Chairman expressed dismay over the poor turn out of teachers at Ali Fodio Model Primary School,headquarters of Bodinga local government.

    He described it as disheartening that as at the time of his visit at nine minutes past eight o’clock in the morning,only five Out of fifty two teachers of the school reported to work.

    According to him,the board under his watch would not condone abscondment from duty from any teacher as the state government is not owing no teacher salary.

    Alhaji Altine Shehu thereafter held a brief meeting with some teachers of the school who reported late where he told them to always put the fear of Allah in the discharge of their responsibility.

    He expressed the board’s continued commitment to improving the welfare of teachers under it.

    The chairman used the medium to call on PTA and SBMC of the school to mobilize parents on the need to be sending their children to school at the appointed time.

    This he said was inview of the fact that less than one thousand out of four thousand pupils of the school were met during his visit.

    At Government Girls Day Secondary School Bodinga,the SUBEB Chairman directed the principal and her deputies to report to the board to explain why they were met absent during the visit.

    Speaking shortly after receiving him, the Permanent Secretary of the Board Alhaji Ahmed Rufa’i Ibrahim described the new Executive Chairman Alhaji Altine Shehu as former Season Civil Servant, Veteran journalist, Renown politician large scale farmer and Educationist who contributed immensely to the development of education and sokoto state in general.

    The release by the Public Relations Officer of the Board,Abbas Tukur Sanyinna further said the Permanent Secretary while welcoming the new Executive Chairman to the Board also assured him of total support and cooperation of all the staff of the Board.

    Alhaji Ahmed Rufa’i to this end wished the new chairman Allah’s guidance in the discharge of his responsibility.

    Responding, the new Executive Chairman of the Board Alhaji Altine Shehu Kajiji expressed happiness to both the management and staff of Sokoto SUBEB for the warm welcome accorded him.

    According to him most of SUBEB activities are collective responsibilities that require the total support and cooperation of all the stakeholders.

    He expressed commitment to improving the quality of basic education in the state through effective monitoring, inspection and supervision of schools as well as training and retraining of staff and teachers for effective service delivery.

    Alhaji Kajiji however promised to run an open door leadership toward taking the basic education sub-sector to the promised land in the state.

    The occasion was witnessed by all the Permanent Members, Directors and their deputies as well as well wishers.

    SUBEB Facilitate Immediate Renovation Of Gutted Yakubu Mu’azu Primary School Dormitory

    The State Universal Basic Education Board has assured it’s commitment to ensuring the immediate renovation of the pupils dormitory razed by fire at the Yakubu Mu’azu Science Model Primary School.

    Public Relations Officer of the Board, Abbas Tukur Sanyinna said the Permanent Secretary of the Board Alhaji Ahmed Rufa’i Ibrahim gave the assurance yesterday 10/11/2021 when he led Directors of the Board to commiserate with the management of the school over the unfortunate incident that occured.

    Alhaji Ahmed Rufa’i Ibrahim who said they received the news of the incident with great shock, explained that their visit was to condole with both the staff and pupils of the school over the unfortunate incident and as well assess the level of damage coursed by the inferno for immediate action.

    According to him before the commencement of the renovation,a temporary dormitory would be provided to the affected pupils.

    He however challenge the management of the school to be more vigilant in that regard especially now that the harmattan season set in.

    The Permanent Secretary who thanked the Almighty God that no life was lost as a result of the incident,also prayed against it’s re-occurance.

    The Permanent Secretary’s entourage was received and taken round the burnt dormitory by the Education Secretary, Sokoto South LGEA Alhaji Sada Haidara and Principal of the school Malam Muhammad C. Muhammad.

    Alhaji Ahmed Rufa’i who was in company of all the Directors of the Board also paid a similar visit to 500 Housing Estate Primary School Bado to commiserate with it’s management over the fire outbreak that burnt some parts of the school recently.
