    Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has called on stakeholders in the Northern region of the country to pool resources and capacity in order to rescue the area from its backwardness in terms of education.

    This was contained in a release signed and issued to newsmen in Sokoto by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to governor Tambuwal, Muhammad Bello.

    Gov. Tambuwal made the call Tuesday when a delegation of the Committee of the Pro-Chancellors of Nigerian States’ Universities (CPCNSU) paid him a condolence visit over the death of the erstwhile Pro-Chancellor of the Sokoto State University, Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir at Government House, Sokoto.

    The governor, who commended the initiative to set up the CPCNSU, observed that the Northern part of the country is still “lagging behind in terms of education.”

    He, therefore, applauded the forum, set up in 2005, which have “occupied themselves with the business of contributing to the development of education in our states and Nigeria in general.”

    “This is our collective responsibility to see that our younger ones are educated, particularly those children that are out of school.

    “We as leaders should provide them with basic education by creating the enabling environment and making provisions for necessary infrastructure, learning materials and personnel for the education of our younger ones,” Gov. Tambuwal said.

    In his speech, the leader of the delegation of the Pro-Chancellors, Gen. Muhammad Magoro (rtd), told the governor that they were in the state to condole him and the people over the death of one of their members, Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir.

    Gen. Magoro who noted that the deceased was a patriot who was vast in many fields of human endeavor, recalled that he was proactive as their member when he was alive.

    Sokoto Correspondent Chapel Commiserate With Tambuwal Over Former Ministers’ Death

    The Correspondent Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sokoto State Council, on Sunday joined other Nigerians to commiserate with Gov. Aminu Tambuwal over the death of his childhood friend and political ally, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir.

    The chapel conveyed its sympathy in a message signed by its Chairman, Malam Habibu Harisu, and Secretary, Mr Ankeli Emmanuel.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abdulkadir, died on Monday in Sokoto at the age of 54 following a brief illness.

    The deceased was a former commissioner in Sokoto state, a minister federal executive council and erstwhile National Vice Chairman (North-West) of All Progressive Congress (APC).

    The chapel described the death as a great loss to Sokoto State and the entire Nigeria.

    The union also described late Abdulkadir as a courageous and hardworking person who lived an exemplary life.

    The chapel prayed to Allah to grant him Aljanna and his family the fortitude to bear the loss.

    Tambuwal Appoint New Executives To Oversee Vacant Ministries

    Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state has approved the appointments of two of his commissioners to oversee vacant positions in two ministries pending the filling of the positions in due course.

    This is one of the outcomes of the state executive council meeting held in Government House, Sokoto, Wednesday.

    According to the governor, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Alhaji Bashir Gidado Jegawa will oversee the Ministry of Budget and Planning while that of Basic Education, Alhaji Bello Guiwa, will be in charge of the Ministry of Lands and Housing.

    The Ministry of Lands and Housing became vacant as a result of the death of its former Commissioner, late Alhaji Surajo Gatawa who died in May this year; while that of the Ministry of Budget and Planning became vacant after its holder, Hon. Balarabe Shehu Kakale won a seat at the federal House of Representatives to represent Bodinga/Shuni/Tureta federal constituency.

    The appointments of Jegawa and Guiwa takes immediate effect until substantive appointments are made.

    Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, has constituted a 32-member “COVID-19 friendly Ramadan” feeding programme committee in the state.

    Tambuwal in a statement issued by his special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Malam Muhammad Bello, said the feeding programme, is a slight departure from its kind executed in the past.

    The governor said the programmed will take cognizance of the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on the prevention of the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

    “Although the number of feeding centres in the state has been increased from 137 in 2019 to 150 this year, steps have been taken to ensure that they are not crowded during breakfast distribution sessions.

    “This is in order to ensure that we observe the guidelines, raw food would be mainly given to the beneficiaries while some selected centers will be designated to provide only takeaways,” he explained.

    The governor further explained that the rise in the amount to be spent from N380 million in 2019 to N500 million this year, is informed by the increase in the number of envisaged beneficiaries and the increase in the prices of commodities.

    Tambuwal said that the committee will be headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Saidu Umar, while House of Representatives member representing Silame/Binji Federal Constituency, Alhaji Mani Maishunku (PDP- Sokoto) will serve as member.

    “Other members are: Abubakar Shamaki, Abdullahi Maigwandu, Bello Aliyu, Malam Abubakar Jibril, Malam Abubakar Mabera, Malam Auwal Romo, Malam Lawal Maidoki, Prof. Abubakar Yagawal, Malam Bello Yabo and Malam Yahaya Na Malam Boyi.

    “Also on board are: Prof. Mansur Ibrahim, Malam Amadu Helele, Malam Nura Hausare, Dr Jabir Sani-Maihula, Malam Zaruku Masallacin Shehu, Malam Husaini Gandu, Ibrahim No Delay, Farouk Suyudi and Bello Guiwa.

    “The remaining members are: Sarkin Yakin Gagi, Ubandoman Sabon Birni, Sarkin Kudun Guiwa, Prof. Sadiya Bello, Malama Aishatu Salihu, Malama Zainab Binji, Hajiya Inno Attahiru and Hajiya Fati Illo .

    “The State Ministry of Health and all security agencies in the state would be represented by one person each.

    “A former Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Religious Affairs, Alhaji Bello Mailato, would serve as Secretary to the Committee,” the governor said.
