Nigeria needs competent president not power rotation- Tunde Bakare

The serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC) (formerly Latter Rain Assembly), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that what Nigeria needs at present is a President who is most competent to drive the country to the next level.

Bakare who paid a courtesy visit to President Buhari at the statehouse Abuja today, October 15, said this when he spoke to state house correspondents after the visit.

The clergyman who said he dispensed what’s in his heart to the President, said it was political “immaturity” that drove the nation to the clamour for power shift when various zones that produced Nigerian leaders in the past had not fared better after many years of independence.

Asked about his position in the ongoing debate on power rotation, he said

“I’d said it on the 3rd of October. It’s our immaturity, politically and otherwise, that makes us say power must either be in the North or be in the South, instead of looking for the best, the fittest, the most competent, and people of character who love this nation.

“Listen to me, if where the president comes from will make the place he has come from to be better, the Northern part of Nigeria should be richest and should be the most progressive and the most developed because out of 61 years, the North has produced either the president or heads of state for 40 to 41 years and yet, see the retrogression in the North.

“If it’s from the South, why should a person like former President Olusegun Obasanjo freeze and seize the account of Lagos State in his own tenure? If it’s from South-South or South East, why couldn’t former President Goodluck Jonathan use all his powers to develop South-South/South East?

“Not where they come from, it’s what they carry and what they have to offer. May the best of the best of Nigerians rise, whether they’re from the East, from the West, from the North, and from the South.

“If there are agreements between politicians among themselves on rotation, a bargain is a bargain. That’s between them. But as far as this country is concerned, what we need at this stage is a man who can drive us to the Eldorado.”

On whether he would contest the Presidency in 2023, Pastor Bakare expressed readiness to do so if “God” and Nigerians would appreciate it.

“Every Nigerian, who is of age and who is not disqualified by any means, is free. I’m a nation builder, if God wants me to do that, and the people of Nigeria will appreciate that, why not? I’m as free as anybody to do anything with my time. I’ve pastored a church for 33 years, now we raise new leaders. I want to focus on nation building.

“The Office of the President is only one office, there’s so many other things we can do as people to support whoever is there to make sure that we do not go into retrogression, but begin to make steady progress as a people. I’ve already communicated clearly, my future plans to Mr. President, and it stays between us.”

Anyone contesting 2023 elections is putting his head in hot water – Tunde Bakare

The serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said anyone who decides to contest in the 2023 election, is putting his head inside hot water.

Bakare stated this during an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday night.

The fiery cleric revealed that he and a group of Nigerians are building a formidable team, like a shadow cabinet, for the next administration.

According to him, some members of the team are members of the current President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

“Anyone plunging into the election in 2023 is just plunging his head inside hot water, and therefore you must go with a team and not go alone.

“Very shortly, you will see the formidable team we’re presenting to the nation like a shadow cabinet, these are the men that would do it.

“We are meeting right now. They don’t even understand what is about to hit the nation. It is going to hit it big time in a positive manner,” Bakare said.

Buhari Govt has not met Nigerians’ expectations – Tunde Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, has declared that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has not met Nigerians’ expectations.

Bakare explained that there is a general feeling of disappointment among Nigerians who expected change under the Buhari government after rejecting the PDP and embracing the APC’s change. He said it appears the citizens have been shortchanged.

The outspoken cleric stated this on Tuesday night, during an Instagram Live session with media mogul, Dele Momodu.

“We are praying hard that the county will survive and become strong again, this is not what we all call the Nigeria of our dreams,” Bakare said.

“Nigeria will survive and will become the Nigeria of our dreams, but right now, things are not together, especially with the drum of disintegration, which is louder than before.

“Nigeria is better together. If we go back together to the basics of how we came together, looking at 1960 and 1963, we can still be together. We are not there yet, but we are getting closer.

“The truth of the matter is it is still the same Buhari, in the midst of many competing interests, we respond differently. The President is still himself. Some have even asked me if he is not somebody else.

“Power changes people, has power changed him or is he making the best situation of the circumstances? He will be the one to answer it.

“The expectations of Nigerians, including everyone who woke up to say we need a breath of fresh air, has not been met. There is a feeling of disappointment.

“Citizens have the right to demand for good governance. People deserve the government they get.”

He added: “We rejected PDP and embraced APC’s change, but it appears we have been shortchanged.”

Opening church will expose people to COVID-19 – Pst. Tunde Bakare

The Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has stated in an online sermon on Saturday that opening of churches at this time will only endanger people’s lives as they would be exposed to COVID-19.

Bakare stated this on Saturday in a sermon on YouTube.

He said it was not yet time to open places of worship despite the pressure being put on the government by clerics of both the Muslim and Christian faiths.

He said: “I’m so sorry for our country at this juncture.

“I’m so sorry that we are pressurising the government to open churches and to open mosques.

    “You want calamity upon calamity.

The church has not been closed.

    “Nobody can close the church.

“Yes, it is true that buildings are closed, but the church is marching on.

“No one can close the church.

“And government can shut down the buildings, they cannot force us to go back because I’m not going to endanger the lives of our people.”
