Sokoto state government has commended youth who served under the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for their contribution towards the socio economic development of the state.
The governor gave the commendation while declaring close the 2021, Batch “B”, stream I, at the Giginya Memorial Stadium in the state capital.
Tambuwal said the youths’ contributions to the socio-economic development of the state, particularly in the areas of healthcare, agriculture, social services, rural infrastructure and education will be forever cherished by the government and people of Sokoto State and the country at large.
“Your commendable efforts are in consonance with our administration’s resolve to provide basic socio-economic amenities to the rural areas, aimed at reducing rural-urban drift,” just as he gave kudos to
the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers Programme, the campaign against HIV/AIDS; polio eradication and social vices in the state
The Special Adviser on media and publicity to the Governor, Bello Muhammad in a release reported that governor also said a good number of them are leaving their host communities in a better state than they met them, praying that their affinity with the host communities during their service year would form the basis of a lifelong brotherhood, friendship, national unity and integration, which is the core objective of the NYSC Scheme.
Observing that the labour market is saturated globally, which is why the NYSC management has consistently executed its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training program to groom the youths into finished labour products, the Governor offered:
“Our administration has maintained a course of action that will guarantee short and long term credit facilities to any of you who has viable ideas that will translate into a meaningful endeavor.”
He implored them to utilize the experience they have garnered during the service year and exploit opportunities available to establish small-scale enterprises, which will not only make them self-employed but also employers of labour.
”You have been good ambassadors of your respective families and states in Sokoto State. I enjoin you to continue with the good virtues of peace, tranquility and mutual co-existence you imbibed while living in Sokoto State irrespective of tribe, ethnic or religious inclination.
“Be steadfast to the teachings and ideals of the NYSC Scheme and not lend yourselves to champions of political, religious or tribal differences at your detriment and that of your nation,” he advised.
Tambuwal also commended the employers of the corps members for their understanding and partnership with the the state in hosting, nurturing and providing welfare and proper guidance to these vibrant youths, while in the field.
In his address the Sokoto state NYSC coordinator, Alhaji Muhammad Na Kamba said 627 corps members passed out while 6 corps members had their service year extended.
The coordinator thanked the Governor for the continued support to the NYSC in the state.
