Taraba Ex-Senator supports hate speech regulation bill.

By Danzumi Ishaku Jalingo.

One time Senator Taraba South Sen. Joel Ikenya, has thrown his weight behind the hate speech regulation bill.

Ikenya gave the indication on Wednesday while speaking to newsmen in Jalingo.

He said the freedom of expression as a fundamental rights to citizens has being abused by many Nigerians.

The lawmaker said that many people were taking the advantage of such a right to blackmail others more especially those using social media.

He refered to those linking him with the purported crisis in the Taraba assembly which led to the resignation of the former speaker as cheap blackmail.

It would be recalled that Abel Diah, former speaker resigned his position as speaker of the house together with other principal officers of the house. The resignation led to the emergence of a new leadership of the house.

The ex-lawmaker however, said that he has forgiven those who blackmailed him.

He stressed the need for the house to remain focus and work in harmony with the executive to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

He expressed optimism that Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba would not disappoint the people of the state but work for the betterment of the people.
