TCN CEO Abdulaziz Pledges Improved Power Delivery in Second Term, Seeks Staff Support

By Jabiru Hassan

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. (Dr.) Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, has pledged to strengthen power transmission and improve electricity delivery during his second term in office.

Abdulaziz made the commitment during a town hall meeting with staff at the company’s headquarters in Abuja, following his reappointment for another four-year term. He said the focus of the new term would be on practical and measurable reforms aimed at improving grid reliability and ensuring efficient bulk power supply nationwide.

According to him, Nigeria’s transmission capacity has increased from about 5,000 megawatts in 2015 to over 8,700 megawatts, driven by investments in infrastructure, including new transformers and transmission projects. He added that the company has installed more than 80 transformers in recent years and commissioned several high-capacity units across key substations to strengthen the grid.

Abdulaziz also highlighted support from development partners, including the World Bank, African Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency, and Agence Française de Développement, which he said have contributed to expanding transmission capacity. He called on staff and union leaders to sustain collaboration to achieve the company’s goals of stable and reliable electricity supply.

Earlier, Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi Fadahunsi, said the town hall was aimed at promoting transparency and engagement among staff.Other executives also emphasised teamwork and staff welfare as key to improving performance in the power sector.
