By Golok Nanmwa

There is tension in some parts of Jos the Plateau State capital on over the death of a boy in his mid-twenties in Dutse-Uku area of Jos North.

Our correspondent gathered that the boy was probably killed Monday night and dumped in a well, and the discovery of his corpse on Tuesday morning created, tension as some groups began mobilizing for reprisal before the arrival of security operatives.

it was gathered that the boy killed is about 25 years old, Jarawa by tribe. His father is said to be the security man of the COCIN church in-between Dutse-Uku and Tina Junction, and as soon as news filtered in that someone has been killed around Dutse-Uku, the usual reaction resulted and boys began mobilizing for reprisal.

It was observed that part of the tension, which was more evident around Tina Junction, included students/pupils returning back from school, people locking their shops and others gathering in clusters.

Shortly thereafter, soldiers and other security operatives came in large numbers and restored normalcy and as at the time of filing this report, normalcy has been restored and everyone is already going about their normal business.

Tyopev Terna, police spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying that security personnel have been deployed to the area to ensure law and order. According to Terna, security personnel have dispersed people gathering around the area, adding that everything is under control. “The police got distressed calls this morning that a young man was killed and dumped in a well. The Command quickly mobilised and got to the scene of the incident. On getting there, the police discovered a body and evaluated it. ” The police dispersed people gathering in the area. Everything is calmed and the place is under control, ” he said.

Meanwhile the Plateau state Government has saluted citizens for the courage to resist unprovoked actions that may threaten the hard earned peace the state is currently enjoying. The government says the quick intervention of security agencies to the threat at Dutse Uku is as a result of the synergy between security agencies and the state government.

Plateau state Commissioner of Information and Communication Yakubu Dati in a statement in Jos expressed satisfaction with the proactive measure of security agencies and ask citizens to avail them the necessary information to make the state safer. Dati said every where is calm with people going about their normal businesses and security personnel at full alert.

He encouraged them not rest on their oars and ensure anyone involved or associated with the threat is brought to book. The Commissioner encourage communities to form joint vigilante groups to minimize criminality in their areas. He advice people on social media not to ignite crisis by reporting falsehood about the security situation in the state.

Dati said the state and its people have risen above primordial sentiments as reflected in the peace that prevailed before, during and after the elections in Plateau state. The Commissioner express confidence that citizens will put merchants of conflict to shame by resisting the lure to crises in whatever form.
He said Governor Lalong has laid the framework for sustainable peace through the state’s Peace Architecture that has rebranded the state as a destination of choice for Nigerians and foreigners alike.
