The Judicial Commission Of Inquiry On State And Local Government Auction Of Assets And Related Matters Holds Inaugural Sitting

The Chairman of the Commission, Justice Muazu AbdulKadir rtd while addressing newsmen on the task assigned to the Commission which was inaugurated and sworn by the state governor explained that the task ahead of them is borh simple and complex.

He said it is simple because it is backed by the provisions of the Laws of Sokoto state and complex because if the nature of inquiry required. adding that the simplicity and complexity of the task is a task that will not lightly undertake and will as well deligently be pursued to the best of their ability.

He also averred that they were given Terms of References under which to operate that entails examining sales and auctions of government’s assets including all official vehicles of state and local governments coupled with donations and gifts.

In furtherance, the Justice stated that all carved out plots, houses sold or auctioned, ascertaining government Bank accounts and amount realised from sales are among their responsibilities.

Supporting his statement, the Justice explained that section 7 of the Commissions of Inquiry Law provided them the power to procure and require all such evidence, written or oral to examine witnesses, to enter upon any land, to summon witnesses and to do any other thing that is necessary or conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the inquiry.

“In this regard, anyone appearing before the Commission do so as a witness and not as a suspect, accused or defendant”.

He then assured citizens and people of the state on whose mandate they sit that they will not fail in carrying out the responsibilities assigned to them saying upon being shouldered with the responsibility to lead the Commission and from interactions with the members, he realised they are people of high integrity and impeccable character.

“I an sure we will not falter in our zeal to be fair and just to everyone”, asserted Justice Muazu AbdulKadir rtd.
