The Leadership of EFCC in Northern Hands Since 2003 (Photos)

Recently, there has been a wave of social media discussions following the news of President Tinubu appointing Ola Olukoyede as the EFCC chairman. This has raised concerns, especially since both the president and Olukoyede hail from the southwestern part of Nigeria. Many have criticized the president, alleging tribalism in his appointments, suggesting that he favors individuals from his own ethnic group. But let’s delve into the facts.

For those who may not be familiar with the history of the EFCC, it was established in 2002 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and commenced operations in 2003. Over the past two decades of its existence, the EFCC has exclusively had Northerners at the helm.

In a similar vein, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had never seen a minister from the southern part of Nigeria until President Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, to the position.

Here’s a list of EFCC chairpersons from 2003 to the present day. The question arises: Has there never been a qualified individual from the southern regions worthy of leading the EFCC? You decide!
