THE SOCRATES OF CRS JUDICIARY BOWS OUT MAJESTICALLY

The chief judge of CRS, Hon. Michael Edem retired last Friday in Calabar after 35 years of meritorious service in the State Judiciary.

Justice Michael Edem, the former chief Judge of Cross River State reputed and widely known as “Socrates” of Cross River State bench will be missed for his erudition and amiable leadership style. The Bar and the Bench will missed sterling leadership qualities says an NBA official.

In a related development, Justice Angela Obi has been elected as the new chairperson of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Cross River State to pilot its affairs for the next three years. Other members of the executive include Mrs. Ann Awah, Vice chairperson, Mrs Affiong Onung, Secretary, Mrs. Rose Inameti, Assistant Secretary, Mrs. Patience Egwu, Welfare Officer Magistrate Christiana Offionor, Treasurer, while Mrs. Beatrice Awah and Mrs. Rosemary Onah are Ex-Office members.

Until her election Justice Obi was the vice chairperson of FIDA and also recently sworn-in as a judge by Gov. Ben Ayade. Inaugurating the new executive at the Conference Hall of Ministry of Justice, Calabar, former chairperson, Mrs Beatrice Awah advised them to continue from where the last executive stopped and broaden their horizon to ensure that the rights of women and children are protected in the state.

In her acceptance speech, the new chairperson, Justice Angela Obi thanked members for finding them worthy to serve International Federation of Women lawyers in the state.

She promised to work assiduously to ensure that FIDA is heard in the state more especially on issue of rape which is assuming a frightening dimension.
