The Sokoto State government has inaugurated a comprehensive Emergency Obstetrics and Newborn Care Technical Working Group.

The aim is to reduce maternal and newborn deaths. 

Led by State Commissioner of Health Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, the group comprises various stakeholders, including representative of Her Excellency wife of the Executive Governor Hadiza Ahmad Shagari, Chairman House Committee on Health overseeing health-related legislative matters, representative of Sultanate Council Committee on Health bringing expertise from the Sultanate Council, Special Adviser Primary Healthcare Development Agency focused on primary healthcare initiatives Special Adviser SOCHEMA contributing to healthcare development, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health ensuring policy implementation, Executive Secretary Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Implementing primary healthcare programs. 

Others are DG SOCHEMA driving healthcare initiatives, Executive Director Hospital Services Management Board Managing hospital services, Director Health Planning Research and Statistics Ministry of Health, serving as secretary

Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno assured that the state government would implement the group’s resolutions, aiming to achieve targeted goals and improve healthcare outcomes. 

This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing maternal and newborn care in Sokoto State.
