There would be no Ruga settlement in Taraba says Gov Ishaku

Taraba state Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has rejected plans by the federal government to established Ruga settlement in the state, saying his government will not provide any land for Ruga Settlement as proposed by the federal government.

Governor Ishaku, who was speaking through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan Abu said his position was made clear to Tarabans following a protest by youths in the state on Monday in Jalingo.

Bala Dan-Ahabu said Taraba government is against the move by the Federal government hundred per cent, adding that no land will be allocated to be use as settlement for herdsmen outside what the law that has been passed by Taraba state House of Assembly has provided for.

“I want to remind you that, there is a law on the establishment of ‘Ranches’ and the same law also restrict movement of cattle in the state”. Dan Abu said.

According to Bala Dan-Abu, A law has been put into consideration by all the interest group related, saying it is a product of several stakeholder meetings.

“If you remembered, even the committee set up by the Federal government under the Chairmanship of one of the Governors from the East came here at Government House and met with both Fulani and Farmers groups”.

Dan- Abu noted that the objections that were raised by the Fulani group during the meeting were taking into consideration and they have been reflected in the final provision made in the law.”S
