By Milcah Tanimu

The Nollywood film “American Playboy,” directed by Rotimi Raji, is set to debut in cinemas on Friday, July 26, 2024. The movie tells the story of two lovers, Akindele and Fadekemi, navigating their tumultuous relationship. Akindele, who has been unemployed for four years, remains hopeful as the couple plans to advance their relationship. However, the arrival of Jimmy, an American returnee with a vendetta, complicates matters.

The film features a seasoned cast including Nollywood veterans Tina Mba and Adunni Ade. Adunni Ade, who made her Nollywood debut in the 2013 Yoruba film “You or I,” recently starred in West Africa’s highest-grossing biopic of 2024, “Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti.” Tina Mba, known for her role in the soap opera “Everyday People,” brings decades of experience to the screen, having appeared in numerous TV shows such as “Jemeji,” “Hotel Majestic,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Isoken,” and “Shadows.”

The cast also includes Wole Ojo, Niyi Johnson, Jide Kosoko, and Segun Akindele. Written and produced by Silas Babalola, “American Playboy” explores themes of family dynamics, love, betrayal, and forgiveness, set against the backdrop of Nigeria and the U.S.

Rotimi Raji is known for his focus on love and romantic relationships, as seen in his previous works like “Bachelor’s Eve,” “Abeke,” “Truth or Die,” “The Other Side of Love,” “Freezing Point,” “Tears of Love,” and “Stepping Up.” “American Playboy” promises to be a captivating addition to his repertoire.
