Tinubu Enhances Security Efforts with Two Combat Helicopters

President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to combating the country’s insecurity issues on Tuesday by inducting two T129 Attack Combat Helicopters and one King Air Beechcraft 360ER mobility aircraft for the Nigerian Air Force’s use.

Represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu emphasized the significance of this acquisition, stating that it underscores his government’s unwavering commitment to national security. The induction ceremony took place at the 131 Engineering Group Hanger, Nigeria Airforce Base, Makurdi.

President Tinubu emphasized that the addition of these new platforms would bolster the Nigerian Air Force’s airpower in the ongoing fight against terrorism. While acknowledging the NAF’s pivotal role since its establishment in 1964, he commended the Chief of Air Staff, officers, and personnel for their dedication to enhancing national security.

Despite acknowledging significant progress in counter-terrorism efforts, President Tinubu stressed that the security challenges must be fully addressed before any celebrations can occur. He called for a shift in mindset, strategy, and tactics to effectively tackle the menace.

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, highlighted that the NAF has received seven aircraft, including two Diamond 62 surveillance aircraft, two T-129 ATAK helicopters, and a King Air 360 ER. He assured the audience of the NAF’s plan to induct 46 new aircraft of various types over the next 18 months.

The Defence Minister, Mohamed Badaru, commended President Tinubu for his foresight and steadfast support of Nigeria’s armed forces. He viewed the induction of the newly acquired aircraft as evidence of the president’s determination to address insecurity. The minister urged personnel to handle the aircraft with care to ensure efficient air operations.

Experts present at the event described the T129 ATAK as a twin-engine, tandem-seat, multi-role attack helicopter designed for armed reconnaissance and attack missions in various environments.

The event’s highlights included the signing of handing over documents and an aerial display by the T129 Attack Combat Helicopter.
