President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance and forwarded his name to the Senate for confirmation.
The nomination was conveyed in a letter to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and disclosed in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Oyedele replaces Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State.
Until his nomination, Oyedele chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. The committee, inaugurated in August 2023, produced a set of executive bills aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax framework. The reforms consolidated multiple taxes and introduced measures including income tax exemptions for low-income earners and tax reliefs for small businesses.
The Tax Reform Acts took effect on January 1, 2026.
Oyedele, an economist and accountant from Ondo State, previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is also affiliated with Babcock University and Lagos Business School.
If confirmed, he will serve under the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and is expected to support implementation of ongoing fiscal and revenue reforms.
The Senate is expected to begin the screening process in the coming weeks.
