President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the killing of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in the Chiranci community of Kano State.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric, and expressed condolences to the bereaved family.
“The President condemned the action as barbaric and condoled with the bereaved family over the tragedy,” the statement said.
Tinubu also commended the Nigeria Police Force for the swift arrest of key suspects and directed security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation and diligent prosecution of those responsible.
“The President commended the police for the swift arrest of the principal suspects and ordered their investigation and diligent prosecution,” the statement added.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, stressing that acts of violence of this nature would not be tolerated.
The incident occurred on Saturday at Dorayi Chiranci Quarters in Kano, where seven people — a 35-year-old woman and her six children — were attacked and killed in their residence by suspected hoodlums.
Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano State, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call at about 12:10 p.m. on January 17, reporting a violent assault on the household of one Haruna Bashir.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately deployed a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani.
The victims were rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel later confirmed them dead.
Kiyawa disclosed that three principal suspects have since been arrested in connection with the killings following intelligence-led operations conducted between the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026.
According to him, the arrests were carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and under the supervision of the state Commissioner of Police.
“The Kano State Police Command, leveraging intelligence-led policing, has successfully arrested three principal suspects behind the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranci Quarters,” Kiyawa said.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
