President Bola Tinubu has postponed his scheduled visit to Kaduna State and will now travel to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, to address the ongoing violence and unrest in the region.
This change was announced in a statement on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, President Tinubu’s visit is aimed at assessing the crisis firsthand and engaging with affected communities to chart a path toward lasting peace. “The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction,” he said.
Originally, Tinubu was slated to commission state projects in Kaduna on Wednesday. That visit has now been rescheduled for Thursday, June 19.
During his time in Benue, the President will hold a town hall meeting and consult with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, community heads, and youth groups, to develop comprehensive solutions to the conflict.
Ahead of the visit, President Tinubu has dispatched a high-level delegation to Benue, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, heads of intelligence agencies, the National Security Adviser, and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Defence.
Tinubu has consistently denounced the violence in Benue State and urged all parties to pursue peace, tolerance, and unity. He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and those affected by the unrest.
