Tragedy: Fire Destroys Multi-million Naira Electronic House In Kogi

Midnight fire destroys multi-million naira electronic shop in Kogi - Daily Post Nigeria

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

Barely two days aftermath of Lokoja Petrol Tanker explosion, another tragedy struck in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital on Friday night as a fire outbreak completely razed down a popular multi-million naira electronic House, called ‘Peelinks’.

The sad incident is coming two days after many people were burnt to death, property destroyed in a tanker explosion along Felele – Lokoja – Abuja highway.

Eyewitness accounts told our correspondent on Saturday morning that the electronic shop was gutted by fire at about 11.30 pm on Friday as many residents watched helplessly.

‘Pee Link electronic world LTD’ is said to be the biggest and the best in Lokoja, worths billions of naira was burnt to ashes overnight as there was no firefighter or fire truck to quench the fire.

The magnificent Electronic house which is owned by one business mogul, Peter Onujeme, is located along Muritala Muhammed way, close to GT Bank Junction, Lokoja.

The fire According to an eyewitness might have been caused by an electrical fault which led to a spark but gathered that the office of the Federal Fire Service, is a few meters away from the scene of the incident.

“So this is how somebody’s hard earned investment was completely destroyed by fire and nobody or even the constituted authorities could salvage the situation. What is the function of the State and Federal Fire Service in Kogi State?” Eye witness lamented

What is more worrisome is the absence of the fire services to help out anytime there is a fire occurrence. The recent episode is therefore one too many, (Wednesday – Friday).

“Whenever their services are needed, it is either they come out with one flimsy excuse or the order. Can you imagine, look at the office of the Federal Fire Service, just a stone – throw to this electronic shop and this shop still burnt down completely without any help from them.”
