Tragedy in Ogun: Farmer Crushed to Death by Falling Palm Tree

By Abigail Philip David

A 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, lost his life after a palm tree fell on him in Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State.

The tragic incident happened around 3:30 pm on Sunday and was later reported to the police by one Gbamila Sunday, according to the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.

Odutola revealed that Rasaki had gone with his colleague, Waheed Abbass, to Egbe Semi Jeje, Oke Sopen, to cut palm trees when one accidentally fell on him.

“Abdullahi reportedly screamed in pain for help, prompting neighbors in the vicinity to rush to his aid. They managed to remove the tree and took him to the General Hospital, Sagamu, for treatment,” Odutola stated.

Unfortunately, Rasaki was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital, as medical personnel suspected the weight of the tree had caused severe internal injuries.

His corpse has been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the Divisional Crime Branch has launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and advised the public to take necessary precautions while engaging in tree-felling and farming activities to prevent similar accidents.
