Tragedy Strikes in Osun as Church Building Collapses, Claiming Two Lives

By Daniel Edu

IKIRUN – A devastating incident unfolded in Ikirun, the capital of the Ifelodun local government area in Osun State, as a church building collapsed, resulting in the loss of two lives on Thursday.

The two victims were part of a group of four individuals who were trapped beneath the wreckage when the building collapsed the previous evening, Wednesday. Reports indicate that the structure was still under construction at the time of the incident, with construction workers present on-site.

Kehinde Adeleke, the Public Relations Officer for the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), confirmed the tragic occurrence on Thursday. She disclosed that the building, situated behind Eweta Community Primary School, crumbled around 7 pm on Wednesday.

A community effort successfully rescued the four individuals from the debris, and they were promptly transported to a hospital, although their injuries were described as critical. Regrettably, two of the victims, including the building’s owner, succumbed to their injuries and passed away at the hospital on Thursday.
