Tragic Discovery: Missing Journalist Hamisu Found Deceased in Zamfara

By Daniel Edu

In a somber turn of events, Hamisu Danjibga, a journalist affiliated with Voice of Nigeria (VON), has been discovered deceased in Zamfara State.

The Secretary of the Zamfara state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ibrahim Gada, conveyed this distressing news in an official statement on Thursday in Gusau, the state’s capital.

According to the NUJ, the journalist was reported missing earlier in the week, but tragically, his lifeless body was found in a soakaway behind his residence three days later.

The union has expressed deep concern regarding the circumstances surrounding Danjibga’s untimely demise and has fervently called upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and bring those responsible for this heinous act to justice.

The statement issued by the NUJ reads as follows: “The Zamfara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists regrets to announce the death of Hamisu Danjibga, a reporter with Voice of Nigeria (VON), whose body was found in a soakaway behind his house three days after he was reported missing.

“The discovery of his lifeless body was made when Islamiya Children detected an unpleasant odor in the evening of Wednesday, 20th September 2023, and brought it to the attention of their teachers.

“After the soakaway was opened, the deceased was identified as Danjibga by his family and some neighbors. His burial rites have since been conducted in accordance with Islamic traditions.

“The Union extends its heartfelt condolences to Danjibga’s family, Voice of Nigeria, and the entire Zamfara state community.

“While expressing profound concern over the circumstances surrounding Danjibga’s tragic demise, the Council appeals to law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and ensure that those responsible for this appalling act face justice.”
