Tribal clash took over Taraba state Polytechnic matriculation in Jalingo

The 2021/2022 matriculation of new students of the Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai located in Jalingo has turned bloody as fight broke out between Jukun and Kutep students disrupting the occasion that was attended by highly placed dignitaries within the state.

Our correspondent reports that notable dignitaries at the event included Mr Baraya, Commissioner for Higher Education, Former Nigerian Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Musa John Jen, among many others.

One of the eye witness who spoke to this news medium, Mr Agbu Dauda said that the fight which was avoidable broke out just for a little disagreement between a Kutep and the Jukun students who came out in their traditional attire to display cultural dances as part of entertainment for the occasion.

He expressed concern over how the venue turn a free for all arena like a boxing competition.

The clash thereafter, attracted some hoodlums outside the polytechnic premises who invaded the arena with light weapons to aggravate the mayhem.

It took the frantic efforts of the security personnel to bring the ugly situation under control.

Dr Ibrahim Abershi, Rector of the polytechnic said that the management had suspended inter tribal activities on the campus.

He said that the management had taken steps to prevent reoccurrences of such in the instruction.

He added that a disciplinary panel had been constituted with the view to sanctioning those students who would be found culprit in the act.
