Troops Eliminate Terrorists, Recover Arms in Kaduna Operation

Troops from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna have killed a terrorist and recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during a clearance operation in the state.

Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, announced in a statement on Monday that the operation took place on Sunday in the areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji.

During the operation, the troops engaged in a firefight with terrorist elements, resulting in the death of one terrorist. The remaining terrorists fled, likely suffering from gunshot injuries.

The troops successfully recovered four AK-47 magazines, a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, a Techno mobile phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and an Airtel recharge card valued at N5,000.

General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation WHIRL PUNCH, Major General Mayirenso Saraso, praised the troops for their success and encouraged them to continue their efforts against terrorists, insurgents, and their collaborators.

The statement read, “Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army, while on a clearance operation in the general areas of Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji on 25 August 2024, made contact with terrorist elements. In the ensuing firefight, troops overpowered and neutralized one of the terrorists, while others fled with suspected gunshot injuries. Troops recovered four AK-47 magazines (three fully loaded with a total of 60 x 7.62mm Special ammunition and one empty magazine), a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles (one of which was destroyed), a Techno mobile phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and an Airtel recharge card valued at 5,000 naira only.”

Major General Saraso also commended the residents of Kaduna, Kano, Niger, and Jigawa States for their continued cooperation and urged them to use the Division’s Toll-Free Line “0800 002 0204” to provide actionable intelligence and information to support offensive operations against criminal elements.
