The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced Thursday that troops have successfully diminished the capabilities of the Islamic State for West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in North East Nigeria. This strike has forced the terror group to initiate a recruitment drive for new fighters across the region. Additionally, terrorists in the North West have resorted to social media for membership recruitment.

Maj-Gen Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that the military is working alongside other security agencies and governments to counter these recruitment efforts.

Troops have also been deployed in Ondo State to ensure a secure environment for the upcoming off-cycle governorship election in November, helping citizens vote freely without harassment. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is assisting by transporting sensitive electoral materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the past week, the military achieved notable successes:
– 88 terrorists killed
– 228 criminals arrested
– 181 kidnap victims rescued

Additionally, troops recovered 84 high-caliber weapons, including AK47 rifles and locally made pistols, as well as 2,393 rounds of ammunition.

In the Niger Delta region, troops destroyed 59 illegal refining sites, arrested 40 oil thieves, and recovered 942,420 liters of stolen crude oil, along with significant amounts of illegally refined diesel and petrol. The operation also led to the discovery and destruction of 13 crude oil cooking ovens, 73 boats, and various other equipment.

These actions continue to disrupt terrorist and criminal activities, while enhancing national security efforts.
