Tunisia foils illegal immigration attempt

Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP) reported that Tunisian security forces on Friday foiled an illegal immigration attempt in the northeast of the country.

Six young people, aged between 18 and 25 years old, were arrested for organising a group to cross the border illegally from the coast of Lobna in Nabeul Province.

“An inflatable boat and a quantity of fuel were seized during the operation,’’ said TAP.

Tunisia, located in the central Mediterranean, is one of the main points of access to the Europe through irregular channels.

The number of attempts of illegal immigration from the Tunisian coasts toward Italy has been increasing despite the strict measures by the Tunisian authorities to combat the problem. (Xinhua/NAN)
