By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

A Federal High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, has convicted two persons for transformer and telecommunication mast vandalism.

One of the convicts, Abdullahi Umar, in suit number FHC/LKJ/06c/2025, was found guilty and sentenced to two years and six months in prison for his role in the vandalism of a transformer cable that provided electricity to the communities surrounding the Federal University Lokoja in Adankolo.

The other convict, Yakubu Mohammed, in suit number FHC/LKJ/05c/2025, received a sentence of one year and six months for vandalism of an Etisalat Telecommunication Mast Antenna in Okumi Community of Lokoja.

The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC in Kogi State DSC, Aliyu Abdullahi, confirmed this in a statement sent to our correspondent on Friday.

According to the statement, “The State Commandant of Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Akinlade Esther, praised the prosecution team, led by DCC Ike F. Ugochukwu, for their thorough and effective handling of these cases.

“Commandant Akinlade expressed her commitment to significantly curtail acts of vandalism against Critical National Assets and Infrastructures, as well as addressing criminal activities throughout the State.”

“She equally called on the citizens of Kogi State to provide credible, apt, and essential information that could assist the Corps in swiftly addressing lawlessness in every nook and cranny of the state.”
