Amidst mounting speculations that Tobi Amusan, the reigning women’s 100m hurdles world champion and record holder, had received the go-ahead to defend her title at this year’s World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, the World Athletics has revealed that her participation remains in question. Recent reports had hinted at her green light for the championships, but the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) had provisionally suspended Amusan after she missed three whereabouts tests.
Nicole Jeffery, the Head of Communications at World Athletics, clarified the situation, stating that reports indicating Amusan’s clearance were inaccurate. Jeffery’s statement, conveyed through Nigeria’s Making of Champions track and field club, emphasized that no decision has been finalized. The Athletics Integrity Unit will announce any determinations made in this case.
Although Amusan’s name appeared on the entry list for Team Nigeria’s athletes in the World Championships, her eligibility is contingent upon clearance by the AIU. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria is eagerly anticipating the AIU’s decision on Amusan’s status. The Federation is hoping for a resolution before the championships commence.
