Unidentified Woman Confronts Begging Mother Utilizing Children in Begging Scheme

A recently surfaced video captures an unnamed woman confronting a female beggar who was employing her children in a begging operation. The video has quickly gained traction on social media.

In the viral footage, the irate woman attempts to take away the umbrella the beggar is using to shield herself and her children from the harsh sunlight. The beggar, situated in the midst of a bustling street, defends herself as the unidentified woman persistently berates her, urging her to seek gainful employment rather than resorting to begging.

Onlookers intervene to implore the angry woman to leave the mother of three in peace.

It’s important to note that the exact time and location of the video remain unverified.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Magistrate Court 5, based in Yaba, recently handed down a two-month prison sentence to a female beggar for exploiting infants in her begging activities within the city. Olusegun Dawodu, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, made this announcement in Lagos while emphasizing the prohibition of street begging and the exploitation of babies and children for alms in Lagos.

Dawodu underscored that the ban remains in force, and those found in violation of the law will face consequences. According to Dawodu, the woman was apprehended in the Herbert Macaulay area of Ebute-Metta, where she was found employing various infants for begging purposes, as reported by PM News.

The case was subsequently brought before Yaba Magistrate Court 5, which sentenced her to two months in prison without the option of a fine. Dawodu expressed concern over the escalating use of babies and children for begging across different parts of the state, asserting that such practices are incompatible with the state’s reputation and will not be tolerated.
