US expands student visa operations in Nigeria, announces dates & application process

The United States will again expand operations in Nigeria from November 24, 2021 to better serve the student population.

The approach will be two-fold – students who need to renew visas to continue their course of study, and a series of dedicated interview days for new students.

A statement on Friday by U.S. Consulate General explained the process for new applications

An applicant would be eligible for a priority interview slot if he/she is seeking an F1 visa appointment and not refused an F1 visa in the past six months.

The prospective students were asked to submit their documents as soon as possible to take advantage of the limited opportunity.

In Abuja, student surge days will take place on December 8, December 15, and January 12 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Applicants are to visit www.ustraveldocs.com/ng and review the criteria and instructions. To request an emergency interview, the following are required:

A completed DS-160, an approved I-20, a receipt for I-901 SEVIS fee, a GTBank (MRV) receipt for visa fee, a scan of the biopage of current valid passport and passport photograph.

In Lagos, student surge days will take place on November 24, December 8, and December 15. Documents should be e-mailed to LagosStudents@state.gov.

These include a completed DS-160, an approved I-20, a receipt for I-901 SEVIS fee, a GTBank (MRV) receipt for visa fee, a scan of the biopage of current valid passport and passport photograph.

Similarly, those currently studying in the U.S. may be considered for a special application procedure.

However, they must be renewing a student visa that is still valid or has expired within the past 24 months.

Those eligible are either renewing to continue participation in the same course of study, even if at a different institution, or attend the same institution even if in a different course.

Such applicants in Abuja are to apply through www.ustraveldocs.com/ng, follow the instructions to complete visa application, visit a designated DHL facility and mail the following:

A printout of confirmation page, completed DS-160, an approved I-20, receipt for I-901 SEVIS fee, a GTBank (MRV) receipt for visa fee passport containing the expired student visa (if that passport is expired, a current valid passport is also required).

Others are passport photograph and proof of continued full-time enrollment (such as transcripts, tuition payment, etc.)

In Lagos, applicants were asked to also take above-listed requirements to the U.S. Consulate at 12:30 – 1:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, between November 25 and January 5.
