Lead actress Uzoamaka Aniunoh has shared her gratitude for the opportunity to work with acclaimed director Daniel Oriahi on the film *The Weekend*. In an interview with Shockng on August 30, 2024, Aniunoh revealed how thrilled she was to land the role of Nikiya Talabi, expressing that it was a significant honor.

“I said yes to the project because it’s a fantastic story, and I loved the people involved,” Aniunoh told Shockng. “Trino Studios and Daniel Oriahi’s collaboration is a match made in heaven. After watching *Sylvia*, I was eager to work with Daniel. Being cast in *The Weekend* was a dream come true. I felt privileged and over the moon.”

Uzoamaka Aniunoh, who first gained recognition with her role in MTV Shuga, has since featured in several notable projects, including the Sundance award-winning film *Mami Wata*, Amazon Prime’s *With Difficulty Comes Ease*, and the Showmax original series *Diiche*.

In discussing her acting approach, Aniunoh emphasized her preference for subtlety. “I lean towards subtle acting. While there is a place for dramatics, understanding your character’s background and story is crucial. Stick to who your character is if it suits the narrative,” she explained.

Aniunoh also spoke about the film’s thematic impact, noting, “*The Weekend* is a thrilling and thought-provoking film. It challenges conventional ideas about family. I believe family isn’t everything; watching the film will give you a chance to form your own opinion.”

*The Weekend* is a psychological thriller that explores the story of Nikiya, an orphan seeking belonging, who uncovers dark secrets within her fiancé’s seemingly perfect family. The film features a cast that includes Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Bucci Franklin, Meg Otanwa, Keppy Ekpeyong Bassey, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Damilola Ogunsi.
