Ward Attendants working in Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja staged a peaceful protest over the death of one of their colleagues, late Salamatu Aliu of post natal ward accusing Nurses and Doctors for negligence of duty.
Speaking during the protest, one of the attendants who volunteer to speak on anonymity, said Salamatu Aliu was rushed to the hospital for medical attention on Sunday evening after her seventh day night shift but was referred to Specialist hospital, Lokoja by Doctors/Nurses on duty for lack of electricity.
According to the attendant , Salamatu Aliu died on getting to Specialist Hospital Lokoja before medical care could be administered on her, pointing accusing fingers on the nonchalant attitude of the Doctors and Nurses of federal teaching hospital Lokoja.
The action which was described as unbecoming of the Accident and Emergency Ward and negligence of duty especially by Doctors and Nurses led to the peaceful protest by the Ward Attendants chanting songs such as “all lives matter and are equal. Stop treating us unfairly as if we are not human”.
While ward Attendants were appealing to the federal ministry of health to beep its searchlight on the hospital, our correspondent gathered that they were pacified to go back to work, and the issue will be thoroughly investigated.
Attempt to speak the Chief Medical Director of the hospital proved abortive as he was not on seat .
Speaking on the protest, a staff of the hospital Mr Enny O. said the matter just got to his notice and is being addressed to ascertain what actually transpired and take the necessary action about it.
It could be recalled that similar incident happened few months ago which led to the beating of some medical personnel by relatives of a patient that died due to alleged negligence on the side of the Doctors.
