….DSS says IPOB killed two officers
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that officers from the Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) killed 21 of their members and took 47 others into custody in a Sunday clash.
Spokesperson for the group, Emma Powerful, said IPOB members were picked up from different locations in Enugu on Sunday and are being held.
“Nigerian government and her security forces should stop killing our people because we are a peaceful organisation,” he said.
He said in a statement that without provocation, agents gate-crashed into an IPOB meeting and “began shooting sporadically which consumed the lives of 21 members.”
He said the action will not deter the members from being peaceful and non-violent.as they press for independence for Biafra.
“We are not a violent group and there is nothing they can do to change our resolve to maintain peace in our land. The efforts of the Nigerian Government in trying to push IPOB to change their tactics will amount to vanity.”
But the DSS has said two of its operatives were killed by members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) during the clash.
A statement issued by DSS said the two personnel died “in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by IPOB on the team.”
The security agency, has, therefore, vowed to track the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
“DSS wishes to inform the public that its patrol team was, today, August 23, 2020, attacked in Emene, Enugu State by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“The service lost two personnel in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by IPOB on the team,” the statement signed by its spokesman, Dr. Peter Afunanya, said.
