Benue state governor, rev fr hyacinth alia, has promised to restore the lost glory of sports in benue state ahead of the nigeria premier football league, npfl, which is to commence next month.
The governor made this disclosure in makurdi while declaring open, a seminar for clubs media directors, which was organized by the benue state government in collaboration with the nigeria premier football league (npfl).
Governor alia who pledged to make benue state a sports hub in nigeria, assured that aper aku stadium will be repositioned to meet international standard, particularly the pitch which has been in comatose for many years.
“I am quite excited to hear that this is the first time you are holding such a meeting in the life of the football league in nigeria, and you have chosen benue. Benue state is going to be a sports hub in our nation. We are going to bring back the lost glory of sports in benue.
We have made sponsorships for national youths games. We have also directed that all the football pitches in our state and in all our schools to be operated. We have brought back all secondary school games.”
He commended forum of media directors in nigeria for the honor given him to be their grand patron, promising not to disappoint them.
Also speaking, the chief operation officer, nigeria premier football league, mr davidson onwumi, pointed out that the essence of the seminar is to educate the media directors across the country to be alive to their responsibilities.
Mr onwumi noted that media directors have been neglected for too long, adding that there is need to encourage them to do better for the clubs. He maintained that part of the reason for the summit is to turn things around for the game of football in nigeria.
Earlier in his remarks, the president, media directors of nigeria, mr eche dennis, appreciated the governor, whom he said has done well in the sports sector, particularly lobi stars football club, makurdi.
